Post-seasons’ greeting and felicitations, my comics-loving cohorts! My back is much better and I’m back for a little TCB. I gotta tell ya, this has been one of the most personally entertaining CCCs we’ve ever done. I was thrilled to see you lot respond to my humble query with such a broad, colorful, and occasionally mind-boggling assortment of funnybook ne’er-do-wells. But enough of this jibber-jabber. It’s time to channel my inner Stan Lee and stun your senses with some staggering statistics, effendi!
30 participants cast 360 votes for 259 distinct looks. Yes, the multitudes have spoken, and the Classic Comics Forum’s favorite super-villain design is Jack Kirby’s majestically fearsome death goddess Hela, who led the field with 8 votes, including Dubip’s first place vote. Hot on her hellish heels with 7 votes is another Kirby klassic: the diabolical Doctor Doom, who would’ve tied with Hela had not Iccrombone specified his original capeless look from FF #5. Doom can take comfort in receiving three #1 votes, more than any other design. Third place was a five-way tie, with Bob Kane’s classic Catwoman (two #1s), Joe Kubert’s Gentleman Ghost, Alex Raymond’s archetypal Ming the Merciless (one #1), Steve Ditko’s Mysterio (one #1), and Jerry Robinson’s Joker receiving 5 votes each. Here’s how the rest of the voting broke down.

½ vote: Lex Luthor (business suit), Quicksilver, The White Queen (Since Mechagoidzilla changed his vote for Pietro due to a misunderstanding, I thought it only fair to count both his choices.)
That feline fashion plate Catwoman and Lex Luthor tied for most looks mentioned, with 4 designs each. Black Manta, Brainiac, Dr. Doom, Grendel, Lumiya, Parallax, Thoth-Amon, and The Vulture tied for the silver, with 2 looks cited apiece.
The clear victor among the many artists nominated was Jack Kirby with a jaw-dopping 60 votes divided among 39 characters. His closest competitors were Steve Ditko, with 22 votes for 10 characters, and George Perez (15/10). Also receiving double-digit votes were John Buscema (12/10), Curt Swan (11/9), Carmine Infantino (11/7), and Bob Kane (10/4).
Marvel led the pack handily, garnering 171 votes for 82 characters, followed by DC (126 votes for 120 characters). Tied at a very distant third were Fawcett and Dark Horse at 3 votes each.

It's been an interesting 12 days countdown and thankful you gave partial credit to my selection of Quicksilver and giving that character a 1/2 vote and I've wanted to thank you Kurt for allowing that to happen. Thanks for putting this together for us to enjoy.

I was most surprised by the popularty of the Gentleman Ghost. In fact, I had included him on my original list, and because therewas already such strong support for him, I changed him out for another design simply because I figured it would be more fun to throw something new than simply repeat what others had already said so well.
What makes this event particularly fun for me is the "why" of it. I loved thinking about why a particular design was a favorite of mine and then trying to explain it in the rationale.
I realized I was drawn to skullfaces. No worries, though: I'm a stable genius.
Already looking forward to the 2018 CCC!

One of the biggest surprises to me was how popular Catwoman was, especially the long, purple dress version.
A surprise of the opposite kind was how few votes Darkseid received - only 1, IIRC. I would have predicted he'd be one of the most frequent choices and probably would have made him one of my own picks had I realised that wasn't going to happen.
Pleased but not surprised to see Hela and Dormammu get so many votes, since they are such strong designs. If this were any other board I'd suspect some influence from their recent movie appearances to be at work here but I doubt that was a factor at all with our Classic Comics people.

I do have to wonder how much of a bump Hela's recent appearance in Thor Ragnarok gave her performance here, as it served to remind me anyways of what a great design it was. She didn't make my list, but got some consideration.
