An extended clip has been released from Captain Dumbass, oops, sorry, I mean Shazam ;-)
TBH, for me, that one was the worst one yet, but YMMV depending what sort of film you're hoping for
Yeah...that did...nothing for me. I was cautiously optimistic over the trailers. But that wasn't good. I don't think I need a remake of Big with super-powers.

For me watching Zachery Levi in anything is like nails on a chalkboard, so this movie would have to be transcendent to overcome him in the starring role for me to even be remotely interested in this one. Nothing I've seen in trailers, clips or comments leads me to believe I will be remotely interested in seeing it however.

Horrible casting, and every clip released so far says this is a 100% misguided effort.

Apparently he's Benjamin in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which is a great show. He's not by any means a stand-out in it though.

My wife used to watch Chuck, in which he was the lead actor, and that show just grated on my nerves, mostly because of his performance. He also played Fandral in the Thor movies and all he did was stand out as "the boob" in the Warriors Three for me, lacking all the style, charm and grace I expected from Fandral. Then he hosted a few of the SDCC specials for SYFY that we watched, and it just reinforced how much I don't like him on my screen. I'm sure he's a great guy and all, just not someone who brings me any pleasure at all when watching him on screen. -M

Just saw an advanced screening. And I really enjoyed it. The audience laughed and clapped. There were some dark scenes but overall it was lighthearted. It pretty much follows the New 52 story but w/o Black Adam. Sivana is the only villain featured and he takes on some of Black Adam's scenes from the New 52 story. The origin of Sivana is tweaked a little from the comic. There are mid credit and end credit scenes. The mid credit scene sets up a sequel and the end credit is good for a laugh.
The casting was pretty good. The young actors did a great job. It was firmly established in the DCUE with comments about and pictures of Superman, Batman and Aquaman. I liked the scenes shot in Philadelphia.
I also got around to seeing Capt Marvel this weekend and I enjoyed Shazam more then Capt Marvel. I feel like WB has learned from their past mistakes on Man on Steel, Batman vs Superman and Justice League. So far Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam have been a blast.

Yes, the early reviews are very strong.
Saw Captain Marvel this weekend; better than I expected though the bar was set fairly low.
Of course Carol's comic book continuity is a huge mess and I'm glad they didn't slavishly try to follow that.
What we got was good but still kind of confused and I'm a fan; it's a good launching point for the next thing, which to me looks to be the Kree - Skrull War.

I was able to get one ticket before it sold out. I am going to take the whole family in 2 weeks. It is worth seeing a second time.

That's what I've been mostly curious about, who is the actual villain and how much do they follow Johns' Nu52 story? The commercials have been focused solely on the comedic elements which is fine but grows tiresome after awhile. Now I am more interested in seeing it.

If you haven't read the Nu52 story in Justice League back ups, collected in a single trade, you should.
Great story !

His screen presence not what I've expected and this movie had too much of corny humor that I did not care for. Basically, I sat there for the whole time and did not do me any justice at all. Everyone at the theatres applauded it and I'm a old school comic book fan that I felt it should had done better. I'm with mrp on his understanding of his acting and did not care for it. He (mrp) shared that he lacks the style & charm, and I added the charisma, and the tour de force attitude to play SHAZAM/Captain Marvel ... this film did not do that. I give this movie the lowest passing grade of D+. I'm not seeing this movie again.

My wife, who actually likes Zachary Levi, has no desire to see this based on the trailers (though part of it is that she has disliked every DC movie since Man of Steel except Wonder Woman), so I will likely wait and check it out when it is streaming or I can get it free from the public library. I am willing to give it a chance in the comfort of my own home for no cost, but it's not something I want/need to see in the theatres.
