Well the other offshoot is that the site I linked to is a wholesaler, so any retailer can set up an account there and carry Mego now, so the Target exclusivity is a thing of the past.
oh and the new Franky is glow-in-the-dark, yes I know, but I am a sucker for glow-in-the-dark-stuff.
I guess I am okay with slight variants re-issues as they transition from Target only to a wider retail availability and will be available outside the US now, especially if they cannot do exact reissues of the Target exclusives due to a clause n the contract (my guess not anything I know for certain) since it allows them to put out some of the more evergreen figures in wider distribution. But, yeah a bit disappointing that so much is essentially a fresh coat of paint on on older figure. If each successive wave continues that trend, I will be not buying much, but like I said, as a transition wave I am ok with it.

Happened to be in Twin Falls today which is where the nearest Target is located. They had four pegs of Megos. But the selection was abysmal. All but one was from the TV favorites line, which I have ZERO interest in. They had one Frankenstein. They had a few of the DC figures, but I’m not interested in them at that scale. Very disappointing.

Looks like there's an Andre the Giant figure in the next wave as well, it just popped up on the Target website, but is listed as out of stock.

Looks like the big announcement Mego has been working on for a few weeks is an agreement with POW! Entertainment to create action figures from the vault of Stan Lee...i.e. unreleased characters "created" by Stan Lee. Here's the press release...
Color me underwhelmed. The only successful characters Stan created were done with (by) Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. His track record of post-Kirby creations is uninspiring at best. It will likely be a bunch of generic (probably derivative) super-hero figures. I likely skip them all unless something looks like it has good custom potential.

That's the big announcement? Underwhelmed here too. Cool that Stan Lee created a bunch of characters unknown to the world, but I don't know that I'd be that invested to buy action figures of them. I was expecting something more like Mego had somehow gotten the 8 inch license back for DC and Marvel figures. Or you could order directly from Mego as well as more about which retailers would be carrying the figures.

Does it make me a bad person that I wonder who is benefiting from from this financially (the Stan Lee creations). Stan and Joan are dead. I guess they had a couple of children...but I just wonder if this is another case of a corporation trading on a dead guys name.
I can say I have zero interest in the figures themselves and am more interested in the IP issues behind them.

I preordered some of the new Mego stuff from Big Bad Toy Store as they had something my wife wanted so I just used their Pile of loot service to get the stuff she wanted and some of the Megos I wanted. I ordered the 4 Trek figures from the wave (Kirk & Spock in dress uniforms, Uhura and Romulan Commander) as a set and then got Bruce Lee, the new Jimi Hendrix, Nosferatu and glow in the dark Frankenstein.
I am on the fence on the 14 inch DC figs. I want Aquaman and Manta, but Manta only seems to be available from online retailers if you buy all 6 14" DC figs as a set. I am not sure about the new52 Bats, Supes and Joker, so I held off. I do want the new Wonder Woman too, but I will wait and see if they piece out the DC sets and make Manta available before deciding if I get the set or not.

I would much rather order from Big Bad Toy Store than Target. I received my Joe Namath this week and the card was very bent up, plus he was missing a shoe (the shoe was not Target's fault, but still added to my disappointment). Agree about Black Manta. I don't want to have to buy the whole set just to get him, although I do want Aquaman too. The Wonder Woman figure looks pretty. Looks like they may have adjusted her face.

This will be old news to most, but I just got the Mego ST Romulan Commander @ Target - this is the one that was released last Fall, though this was the first time I saw this. Surprised I actually found this, since I haven't seen any new Mego ST figures on shelves for months. In any case, incredible figure - the "shimmery" silver uniform looks great, and the gold helmet is cool as well. This is far superior to the original 1970's version (which I never had, but have seen pictures of).

and a 14 inch Hendrix figure revealed at Toy Fair... and a 14 inch Bruce Lee... more Star Trek... Kirk Spock Red Shirt box art says 8 inch but these look like 14 inch, and I know 14 inch Trek was in the works... closer look at 14 inch Kiss... new packaging for the 8 inch Kiss now that it's not a Target exclusive... -M
