December 1986I was in my senior year of high school and this is what I was buying...
Action 586
Adventures of Superman 426
Superman 3 (love that cover)
I was fully on board for the Man of Steel relaunch and the Legends cross-over and this stuff led me to Amazing Heroes #100 the Kirby Special which in turn led me to discover the Fourth World books by Kirby and snap them up while they were dirt cheap (alas I sold them all when I unloaded most of my Silver Age Marvel collection too).
Amazing Spidey 286 & 287 I was digging the Gang War stuff
Avengers 277 Mansion Siege- a story I loved at the time but like less each time I reread it
Batman 405 Year One, I still love Mazzuchelli's work on this
Captain Atom #1-I dug the Modern Comics reprints I had of Captain Marvel so gave this a try..it was really good out of the gate but fizzled fast for me so I dropped it before left for university later that year
Classic X-Men 7-I was experiencing a lot of the ealry X-Men for the first time, filling in gaps form the Bronze Age issues I had managed to get off the racks as a kid
Demon #3 I loved Matt Wagner's version of the Demon (it was my first real intro to the character and to Matt Wagner's work, both of which shaped my tastes over the years
Detective 572-Holmes and Alan Davis, what more could I ask for
Elektra Assassin 6-one of the more challenging books to read, but worth the effort Sienkewicz is so good
FF #300-this was the last issue I picked up until Simonson came on board
FF vs. X-Men 2 & 3...as I said before X-books were almost obligatory pick ups for high school age comic fans at this point.
GL Corps 210-Englehart was barely keeping me on this book, moreso because I enjoyed his earlier stuff on Avengers than because of what he was doing on this book.
Iron Man 216 seeing Rhodey in the classic red and gold armor made me realize how much I disliked the red and silver suit, too bulky, didn't read as Iron Man to me, I would drop the book soon after
JLA 260-I was still reading, ok partially I was cheering the end of some of the Detroit era characters...
Legends 5-again I was all in on this event
Mephisto vs. #1, got #1 because the Avengers were going to be in it later, and the X-Men so was sort of the obligatory buy
New Teen Titans 29 I was coming back but mostly to see Wally as Flash because he was on the cover
Official JLA Index #7-I started buying this series because of the Perez cover on #1, but it was my first delve into DC history and I was learning all I could about the JLA
Outsider 17-obligatory Batman purchase
Strange Tales #1-my first time buying a Doc book on a regular basis, didn't much care for Cloak and Dagger at the time though
Thor 377-still riding the Simonson train even if Our Pal Sal was doing the art
Uncanny X-Men 215-again X-Men were the obligatory book for all high school age comic fans and it had Alan Davis
Watchmen 7-got on on he ground floor with this and it was slowly evolving my tastes in comics with each issue
West Coast Avengers 19-the Milgrom art was making this harder and harder to keep buying each month even though I was grooving Englehart and the cast
Who's Who 25-getting my DC research on
Wonder Woman 2 Perez 'nuff said for me at the time
X-Factor 14-got on the Simonson train again
X-Men vs. Avengers 1-it was Avengers, and X-Men, the me of then couldn't not buy it.
