Well, if I was limited to two that month it just might be the same. It was a bit of a transition era for me with comics. I had been a loyal Marvel reader in the 70s but was turned off by the changes that came about under the Shooter regime, and still hadn't discovered the independent scene. So I was looking for things to read but not having much luck, apart from a few isolated exceptions like these Alan Moore series.

I had just started collecting comics seriously at this time, having started to transition away from sportscards. Didn't buy too much off the racks at the time, but in my collection, I currently own:
Amazing Spider-Man #268 Captain America #309 Daredevil #223 - Secret Wars II tie-in. The less said, the better about that whole affair. Defenders #147 - Hardly recognizable as The Defenders, as the team featured Iceman and Beast at this point. A series in its death throes. Fantastic Four #282 Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #31 Incredible Hulk #311 Iron Man #198 Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #4 - one of many attempts at a Moon Knight ongoing. This one only lasted six issues. New Mutants #32 Spectacular Spider-Man #106 - Black suit in "Amazing", classic suit in "Spectacular"? I was so confused. Power Man and Iron Fist #119 - another long-running series approaching the end and running out of steam. Squadron Supreme #2 Star Wars #99 - not good at all. A shadow of what is had once been. Thor #359 Uncanny X-Men #197 West Coast Avengers #1
I also owned G.I. Joe #39 at one point, but sold it off a number of years back to make room for newer things.

Just getting back into comics at this point as I finally was old enough to have a job and make my own money, so I only had maybe 3-4 books from this month at the time.
I've gone back and gotten a lot form this time now, so what I have now..
Amethyst #11 Arak, Son of Thunder #50 Arion, Lord of Atlantis Special #1 Conan the Barbarian #176 Coyote #14 Crisis 8 & 9 Deadman #7 Elric: Sailor on the Seas of Fate #4 Green Lantern #194 Jon Sable, Freelance #31 JLA #244 & Annual 3 Ms. Tree #21 and #-D Special #1 Nathaniel Dusk II #2 New Mutants #34 Nexus #34 Omega Men #32 Power Man and Iron Fist #120 Savage Tales Vol. 2 #1 Sgt. Nathaniel Dusk II #2 - It's been a long tim since I've read these but IIRC, Colan's artwork in ND II was even better than in the first ND series Swamp Thing #42 - pretty sure I bought this issue off the stands as I know I was following the series at this time. I get mixed up now over which SW issues I didn't read until later, in TPB form. Unknown Worlds of Frank Brunner #1 - not 100% sure about this one: I think I bought it at the time, while I'm pretty sure I didn't find #2 until years later as a back-issue. But it's possible that was the case with #1 as well.

I wasn't yet buying comics at this point, as I was five years old, but as an adult, the Nocturna storyline climaxing this month in Detective Comics #556 is one of my favorite moments ever in Batman history. My review of #556 from my Batman #300 and Up review thread.

So what were you buying and/or reading 30 Years Ago This Month? You can scope out Mike's Newsstand, to see an array of comics that were on sale in May 1984. Comics I Bought Off The Stand But No Longer Own: Alpha Flight #10, Amazing Spider-Man #252, American Flagg! #8, Avengers #243, Blackhawk #270, Crossfire #1, Fantastic Four #266, Hercules #3, Iron Man #182, Jon Sable #12, Mars #5, Marvel Fanfare #14, Moon Knight #37, New Mutants #15, Ronin #5, Aga of Swamp Thing #24, Secret Wars #1, Starslayer #16, Star Trek #4, Thor #343, Thriller #6, Uncanny X-Men #181, Zot #2 Comics I Acquired Later But No Longer Own: Atari Force #5 Comics Currently in My Collection: All-Star Squadron #33, Batman #371, Batman and the Outsiders #10, DC Comics Presents #69, Detective #538, Infinity Inc #2, Micronauts #58, Nathaniel Dusk #4, Official Handbook #15, Tales of the Teen Titans #42, Wonder Woman #315, World's Finest #303 May 1984 marked a return to comics for me. After a few years away, when I had supposedly outgrown them, I was hooked back by Stern-Romita's interpretation of Spider-Man and couldn't resist to get this, off the stand: This is the only one I can be sure I Bought Off The Stand But No Longer Own, the rest were probably Acquired Later But No Longer Own. Not much later though, it only took me a few months to get up to speed, something which wasn't difficult, considering I only bought Marvel then, and that the editorial responsible for the spanish edition, published less than ten titles, by 1984. None of them are Currently in My Collection, because I sold them in the 90's, to make room for the american editions, but here's the rest of the list for May, just as a curiosity:

Summer of 1985 may have been my prime buying season in comics. I was pretty huge into DC and was buying all the Crisis crossovers.
All-Star Comics 51 American Flagg 27 Arion, Lord of Atlantis Special 1 Best of DC Digest 66 Blue Devil 18 Coyote 14 Crisis on Infinite Earths 8 and 9 Crossfire 14 Daredevil 225 DC Challenge 1 DC Comics Presents 87 Deadman reprints 7 Epic Illustrated 32 Fujitoid 1 Fury of Firestorm 41 Green Lantern 194 Incredible Hulk 313 Incredible Hulk Annual 14 Infinity Inc 20
Tired of typing, maybe I'll finish later. And I'm sure some of those A-I that I skipped I've later acquired.

In 1985 I was basically buying everything Marvel put out (including Marvel UK) and probably 90% of DC's stuff, too, as well as sundry Eclipse titles and a lot of British stuff most people on here have probably never heard of. The period 1981-1989 was probably my most intensive for comic buying, my teens were basically when i went from reader to obsessive collector.
