Power Girl is one of my favorites! The series a few years ago with Amanda Conner art was a lot of fun (almost as good as the Stephanie Brown Batgirl series being published at the same time, both canceled for the New 52).
Last year, I read her earliest appearances in the Al-Star Comics reprints TPB. I love her very aggressive, in-your-face, grrl-power attitude. Like in this exchange with Wildcat: Gotta love that Wally Wood art!
Yeah, maybe she was a little hard on the boys. But somebody had to say it. And she mellowed quite a bit over the years.
I was reading comics when All-Star came out, but I wasn't reading that many DC comics. And I probably would have read the All-Star Comics revival if I had known about it, but distribution must have been bad in my area because I don't remember seeing it on the comics rack.
I didn't start seeing much of Power Girl until I started reading JLA a few years later. PG was in the JLA/JSA cross-over where they all met the All-Star Squadron and the one after that.
Remember that awful awful awful costume (it was more than one, wasn't it?) she wore in JLE? Ugh! And when she was pregnant even though there was no father? Double ugh! I quit reading JLE before that was resolved and I have never been the least bit curious how that came out.
The most recent revival in World's Finest had its moments. (I only read the first 10 issues or so.) But it had another awful costume! I heard they gave her a different one, but they had already lost me.
I really don't understand why so many people hated Power Girl's first New 52 costume. I thought it was a nice, classy change of pace for her. I don't mind her original suit but I wish they'd close up that boob-window already.

Starman-What stands out for me was Jack Burnley's artwork for his Golden Age adventures. It really stood out to me .Murphy Anderson was a perfect match with Starman in the 60s
Powergirl- Thank god for Wally Wood. Thanks to him for the slowly expanding and world renown pulchritude. And many, many thanks for the classic boob-window costume. Besides all that, I really liked this character in All-Star comics. She took a back seat to no one. Like many other Earth-2 creations, she was practically destroyed by her revamp post-Crisis (The Arion connection) but finally had a miraculous recovery. I enjoyed the Amanda Conner series as well. I really wanted to like the World's Finest Nu52 book but dropped it after 18 months of waiting for something of interest to happen

I read somewhere that Wood drew her Boobs bigger with each issue on purpose and was never told anything.

Did you know:
They got rid of the boob window for the last few issues of the All-Star Comics revival.
Didja? It's a Power Girl fact!
And her original costume design is pretty impressive without it.
Re: the urban legend about Wally Wood drawing her breasts bigger every issue. There's some Internet commentary on that that I'll try to find and link to later on today.

Here's Carol Strickland's Pretty Much Complete Power Girl Index. She follows Power Girl year-by-year. The Wally Wood legend isn't specifically mentioned but it is noted (in the section on 1977) that Power Girl's breasts were HUGE in All-Star #65, Wood's last issue.
And there's also this classic exchange:
Superman: I can't get USED to you -- you're nothing like MY cousin, SUPERGIRL!
Power Girl: Maybe not -- but that's HER problem!
PG is awesome!

PG is awesome! Thanks for jarring my memory - that's one of the many reasons why I like Power Girl and that's why I rated her almost the middle of the pack of the top 50 DC COMICS heroes. I remember the Wally Wood Era quite vividly.

I'm old schooled and I just see things night and day and now DC COMICS is making some grey areas that I just having a hard time accepting it. This list is the most difficult list to put together and I had I spent over a period of 3-4 days about 2-3 hours per day analyzing each and everyone of these characters and after this list is completed - Marvel was 3 times harder than DC COMICS and I have already done that and ready to go after this list is completed. That's all I have to say. I think my DC Top 50 List would be derided as being filled with too many popular characters and an appalling lack of diversity. My Marvel Top 50 List would be derided because I couldn't come up with 50 Marvel superheroes I liked enough to put on the list.

About Number 30, 29, and 28.Mister Miracle, Orion, and Big Barda - all products of Jack Kirby and when he came on board to DC COMICS I was stunned by his departure from Marvel Comics and these are his gems that he created and gave DC COMICS some touch of Marvel Comics by creating the NEW GODS, Lightray, Darkseid, and other memorable characters as well. I find his time at DC Comics to be one of my favorite times and I sorely miss those. Jack Kirby is one of my favorite creator of all time. And, one of the best of his craft. His Comic Books Covers are legendary and I loved them to death. Those were great days and epic reading material. Man, I clearly enjoy reading NEW GODS. That's why they are ranked 30, 29, and 28 and rightly so. I'm a big fan of these three heroes and when they joined the Justice League of America - I was was a very happy man. I just dig their costumes, their fighting style, and ingenuity. Number 27 will come tomorrow.

The news about Kirby leaving Marvel hit the fan press around April of 1970 (his last Marvel issues arrived on the newstands in June/July).The same month, Paul McCartney publically announced the break up of the Beatles. To someone like I who grew up in the 60s with Marvel and The Beatles as cornerstones of my pop entertainment, it was a gut wrenching experience. At the same time as well, Nixon took over in the White House and there was no doubt to me that not only a new decade began but an era ended as well
Kirby moving to DC was tantamount to John Lennon joining The Rolling Stones

the next 5... #32 STARMAN (TED KNIGHT) Would he make my Top 50? Yes, he's my favorite Starman and one of my favorite members of the JSA. The name and costume (fin!) grabbed my interest as a child. His appearances in the 1990s sealed the deal. #31 POWER GIRL Would she make my Top 50? No. I'll admit she's a good character, but I can't stand the broad. The New 52 version may be the one that's aggravated me least. #30 MR. MIRACLE #29 BIG BARDA #28 ORION Would they make my Top 50 list? No. Scott is far and away my favorite New God not named Darkseid, but that merely gets him into the like category. I've never been a fan of the New Gods. Interesting list so far, keep it coming!
