Tomahawk also had his own Treasury edition in the mid-1970s, albeit with this deceptive cover: The actual stories reprinted inside all feature Tomahawk - this is something I learned quite recently thanks to an episode of the TreasuryCast.

Right! I'd forgotten that! They were all reprints, of course, but it was still nice to see Tomahawk get some props during the bicentennial.

One that is well known but still breaks my heart. Bat Lash was very popular in Europe. But it didn't sell well enough in the US to keep it going. Sigh.

Carmine Infantino got paid $30 for this image. All the times it's been used on books and products...and he got $30 for it. Smdh.

Slam_Bradley -- That's unbelievable and a total travesty on not taking care of (Carmine) him.

Both likely got paid less than Carmine but were just as instrumental as he on the impact that piece has had. Carmine at least gets remembered for it, they have been forgotten. -M

No idea what he was paid, but surely less than Carmine. Which isn't to say they shouldn't have gotten a hell of a lot more money also.

I didn't know that Infantino didn't care for Anderson's inks. I wonder if there were any inkers he liked on his pencils. I never noticed a big head on Flash as a result of Anderson's inks myself. FWIW, here's Giella on Infantino. Talk about a big-headed Flash. He actually looks more like Kid Flash in his first few appearances.

So...yeah. And Giella was definitely a much worse offender on the Big-Head Flash than Anderson. Infantino definitely wanted it known that he didn't draw Flash with a gigantic melon.

Totally agree on this--early in the run, stories w/ Giella's inks often made Flash look like a kid. And it really bugs me. In terms of the original issue--I think that drawing was originally done as an interior pin-up rather than a marketing piece, so Infantino probably got the regular page rate. Maybe he got screwed, but that was the work-for-hire world.
On a related note, my son got this great water bottle at Target that uses cover art from the 40s-70s, and I'm sure no royalties were paid.

Makes me wonder if Infantino and company got paid double (i.e., for two pages) for that. Probably not.
Cei-U! I summon the bargain!
