Had one of those wow now I feel old/where did the time go moments today... As many know I am a huge Joe Kubert fan. He is a legend and seemed to have been a part of comics almost as long as there were comics. Part of the old guard for sure. But I have always thought of his sons Adam and Andy as the young turks of the industry. The young guns just coming on the scene so to speak. Today was Andy Kubert's 61st birthday. Where has the time gone? One of my perceptions of reality has been shattered. I don't know why it struck me so, it just did. -M I remember reading the Kubert DC Special from the late summer of 1969, in which the reprinted stories were framed by a story set at Joe’s home and featuring his wife and young kids, as well as Joe himself laboring at his drawing board. It was charming and sweet and all those good things, and Adam would have been, what, seven years old. Seems like yesterday that I bought and devoured that collection, the cover of which is a classic.

There was a part of my mind that immediately went "wait, how old are Andy and Adam now" (cue the Young Ones theme song "cause we may not be the young ones very long"). Of course then I reflected how cool that another generation of Kubert is out there both creating art and helping young artists on their way (and my daughter really like Emma). But yes...where has the time gone indeed!

It's like...wait, how old does that make ME lol! @mrp - the other one that hits me the way you described is Romita Jr., another "young turk" still in my mind...he turns 67 in August.

First off, I'm going to agree with foxley who said "The movie is pretty terrible, but enjoyable in a schlocky kind of way", perfect summary. I hate to even comment on the "special effects" because there really were none (even by low budget TV movie standards) other than a brief blue "glow effect" on a meteorite that is shown supposedly heading through space towards Earth in the opening. There could not have been a cheesier "Earth globe" used, I mean not even an attempt to make it look like it had clouds. So you know right from the start, it's one of those sit back and relax and just enjoy the cheesy ride. And in a weird way, it kind of delivers! The premise is a construction crew on a small uninhabited island, and the meteor lands there and ends up possessing their bulldozer, becoming the Killdozer that keeps killing off the crew members during the course of the film.
I think anyone who grew up on '70s made-for-tv movies would know exactly what to expect as far as budget and polish, though some did try to transcend. It's kind of like watching classic Doctor Who; you ignore the wobbly sets and bargain effects and such and enjoy the good stuff around them.

Reminder: Tomorrow (March 1) marks the beginning of Will Eisner's Read A Graphic Novel week annual event. I used to curate an event here joining in with it, but participation was spotty after the first year, so I no longer do it, but go out and read some GN or collected editions this week-try something new or revisit an old favorite.

There are mystery crates for almost everything: cheeses, alcohol, vegan foods, books, candy, etc. Would love to think a mystery graphic novel subscription could work.

A local bookstore does something like that where you can go in and there's a selection of books with plain, brown paper dust jackets that say something like "Historical novel."
I got a jump on Eisner week over the past couple days re-reading this fro the first time since I got it in '09:

Can’t wait for this issue: Thanks for the heads-up--I too look forward to the issue.
Although the Cockrum art has been re-colored, its great that his work for Aurora Plastics; Comic Scenes model kit reissue serves as a representation of the characters.
BTW, the original comic / instruction book's cover:

Can’t wait for this issue: I'd read it just for Super Goof. Though Stacy Haiduk had nice legs..... That was about all I noticed of the series, after an article in Comic Scene. I caught the pilot episode and then the one with Michael J Pollard, as Mr Mxyzptlk. I even missed Lex Luger fighting Superboy.... It was a little to cheap looking and cheesy for me to want to tune in. Kind of felt the same way about Lois & Clark, later; but, I sampled more episodes of it.

Will Eisner was born on this day 106 years ago (March 6, 1917). How's Read A Graphic Novel Week going for all of y'all? -M
