Star Trek 11 (April, 1975). Cover art by Eddie Jones, signed as S. Fantoni. Star Trek 12 (November, 1977). Cover art by Eddie Jones. The delay between books 10 and 12 was due to the failing health / eventual death of author James Blish in 1975. He only completed parts of book 10-12's stories, with the rest finished by his widow, J.A. Lawrence (pen name of Judith Ann Blish).

Thanks for the reveal. The source listing ST7's credits believed the artists was not identified, thanks to their misreading of the cover signature. Mystery solved!

Some of my pulpy favorites: Art credits: Tim Kirk, Luis Dominguez, Roy Krenkel (the third and fourth covers) and Michael Whelan. All three by Gray Morrow (and don't let the pseudonym fool you - the writer is Michael Moorcock).
And these by Steranko:

And just some random, old-style SF covers I really like: Art credits: Richard Powers (top two), Leo & Diane Dillon, Ken Barr.

Mystery solved! the Speculative Fiction Database I linked is a great resource for finding cover art credits and pretty much anything else you need about sci-fi, fantasy and horror publications. It does for spec fiction books what the GCD does for comics. -M

The second half of 1974 - summer, and the first semester of freshman year in college, during which I got drunk for the first time. Not drunk enough to stop buying some SF magazines, though. Just before school started I went to the WorldCon in Washington DC; that's where I picked up that lone issue of Analog below. I think they were giving them away. July: August: September: October: November: December:

Of Richard Matheson's many masterworks, I Am Legend has been reprinted more times than one would imagine, each version sporting a new cover, some with original art, others with photos, and rarely a creative "miss" among them. Here's a sample of the best (arguably), beginning with-- Top row (left): The first paperback printing (Gold Medal, 1954). Cover by Stanley Meltzof. Top row (right): This reprint (Bantam, 1964) was published as a tie-in to The Last Man of Earth, the 1964 film adaptation starring Vincent Price. Cover by Sandy Kossin. Bottom row (left): The next movie tie-in-- The Omega Man (Berkley Medallion, 1971) starring Charlton Heston, was only a tie-in by the cover alone, as the film script was never adapted into novel form. The cover's grim art was originally created as a movie poster by the unforgettable Mort Kunstler. Bottom row (right): Jumping ahead, here is yet another reprint (Tor, 1995), this time showing an army of the undead seemingly waiting to march. Cover by Jim Thiesen.

The top two are really good covers - don't like the bottom two as much.
