Chris
Unique contest this week and I think his cover best captures both elements.

Prince Hal for the Everett Kinstler cover. Kinstler (who I know) went on to become one of the top portrait artists in the country.

Prince Hal for the Everett Kinstler cover. Kinstler (who I know) went on to become one of the top portrait artists in the country. I had the privilege of meeting him at SDCC in 2007. He was sitting right next to Carmine Infantino, who I got a Flash commission from.
Unfortunately I hadn't heard of Mr. Kinstler before then.

codystarbuck. That was a special time to be a POTA fan, from the excitement of the Mego figures to those great Marvel magazines, with a stunning Bab Larkin cover.
Honorable mention: chaykinstevens.

He left comics and illustration in the early 50s to pursue portrait work. A wise choice considering his success. But his comic work is great, in the James Montgomery Flagg and Charles Dana Gibson tradition.

Yes, he did portraits of the US presidents as well.
