I want to apologize in advance. I don't normally share my opinions on anything. But, I keep seeing this thread, and I HAVE an opinion on my favorite character's outfit that I like the least. But, I know someone is going to have this as their favorite, and I'm sorry. I don't mean to offend. But...Yeah. Um, as you know Harley Quinn is my favorite, and... I don't like Harley Quinn's outfit in Injustice: Gods Among Us <img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dJp6_rNSu3g/T8kS7NYcG-I/AAAAAAAAQOE/22dO8GXXzQs/s1600/injustice-stills-harley-quinn.jpg" alt=""><br>I like somethings, but...not all of it. It might not be her "worst", but it IS my least favorite. I like the game, though. It's fun. That is pretty bad. It looks like an archer's outfit. But ... Uhhh ... Seeing my taste in women's attire, I will totally admit to liking her outfit in the Arkham Asylum game. Huh. I did not make this connection! Cool! Completely understandable! I'm just self conscious and would never wear anything exposing myself. But, if anybody does or like people that do, that's perfectly fine. To each their own!

One of my favorite characters is Orion of the New Gods, and I hate this costume from the horrible Gerry Conway-written title post-Kirby. This costume is horrible and totally out of character. I'd rephrase that a bit and say that it is horrible mainly because it is so totally out of character. In and of itself it's just a bland, inoffensive superhero costume, but it's completely unsuitable (ooh! did I just make a pun?) for Orion. I especially dislike the mask.

At least.

Regarding Sub-Mariner's '70s costume: it was added because the creators were trying anything to shore up his title's sales, which had tanked after Bill Everett took over the script and art with #50.
And Phil, there is no in-story justification for the change in Dr. Fate's helmet, not in the original Golden Age run. The new look simply appears without comment (a few issues later, his cape disappears, too). The explanation would have to wait for 1984, Roy Thomas and All-Star Squadron Annual #3.

I didn't care for the change in Fate's headgear either, but after seeing Jared Stevens I changed my tune. Anything is better than that.
And that Harley Quinn looks like a Mortal Kombat character.

Thankfully just between the missus and I we both feel a little less conscious when it's for each other. : -) Edit: In fact in doing an image search the other day to make sure I was thinking of the right game for that costume, I found some very authentic (to that particular look) and tasteful, cosplayers sporting it.

I didn't I know a lot of people are this way. And, same here, regardless of male or female outfits. And that's what I want someday. Someone who I'm a little less self conscious around! I'm glad you have someone! And now I'm curious! I want to go see this! When it comes to cos players, I almost respect all of them. There's a few I dislike but it's based on their attitude (not the characterization but them normally) Anybody willing to go out dressed in a costume regardless of who's watching, has my respect.

Here's the few I found that I thought were well done compared to the original. There's a few more that are good to the costume in the game, but a little less classy. These two just seemed to capture the aspects of costume in a feminine but less dirty way, which I get is the intent of the costume in the first place. I like fetish wear so things so costumes like this are appealing to me. I don't think it's a good fit for the character herself, but alas sex sells. For the character, I like Batman:TAS and Batman Adventures comics. Now Poison Ivy, that's a gal, even in a young audience show like Batman TAS, oozes sexuality.

I agree they catch the feminine aspect without overdoing the sexualitized aspect. But I also agree that it doesn't fit the character herself and it's true. That does sell. And yes. Yes yes yes that's the version I prefer, too! And I can definitely agree with that. Poison Ivy just...screams that. In everything!

Cei-U! I summon the fashion update! Sales went down when Everett took over the book? Damn, those were some of the most beautiful comics ever published. I know my tastes don't follow the mainstream now but I thought I was a "typical fan" back then.

The art was gorgeous, no question, but Everett's scripts were seriously out of sync with (then) contemporary standards, especially when compared to the pseudo-sword & sorcery stuff Roy Thomas had been doing. I've heard that, although the letters page didn't reflect it, reader mail was heavily negative about his version (except for Namorita; folks seemed to love Namorita). That may be why they brought in Steve Gerber to dialogue Everett's pages, though the latter's failing health was also a major factor.

The new look simply appears without comment (a few issues later, his cape disappears, too). The explanation would have to wait for 1984, Roy Thomas and All-Star Squadron Annual #3. I don't remember what Roy's explanation was, but when I read the Golden Age Dr. Fate Archives Volume 1 (and only!), the practical reason behind the change of helmets became obvious (to me, anyway). An issue or two before the change, Gardner Fox apparently decides that Fate was too powerful, and introduces a mortal vulnerability that will allow the character to be more easily put in danger. That vulnerability is that since Dr. Fate has to breathe, he is susceptible to the effects of gases...ether, poison gas, etc. But then someone realizes that when your main character's mask shows neither nose nor mouth, it's going to be mighty hard to illustrate him inhaling noxious fumes. So the mask changes, and now the artist can draw those wispy purple clouds being sucked into Dr. Fate's nostrils.

My own feeling is that someone in DC editorial decided that full face masks prevented us from reading a character's emotions. I suspect this was also a factor in the Sandman redesign and, after the AA staff moved to the DC offices in '47, for the similar changes to Hawkman and Atom.
