In the book I owned, I was surprised to learn of the existence of regimental police, not technically military police, but belonging to the regiment or corps that they enforce discipline in.
I have read a lot of books about the military. Always enjoyable, but so much seems counter-intuitive to me, such as the head of the Royal Marines being a Major General rather than a full General, plus how different militaries seem to define what a Warrant Officer is (NCO, an officer of sorts, something else entirely?), plus a Royal Navy officer being in command of No. 617 Squadron RAF, etc.
