Yeah, no way I can make a choice here: I love both tamales and enchiladas (and burritos and tacos and...). And this just reminds me that I haven't had either in years. There's no place to get Mexican food here. I honestly think it would kill me to not have Mexican food available to me. The two things my son wanted desperately when he got back from 18 months in Benin were a hamburger and carne asada and carnitas tacos.

Don't mention carnitas tacos, you're making my mouth water. Yeah, one of the major drawbacks of living where I am now is not having tons of great global cuisine options (but esp. Mexican) basically at my fingertips like I did in California. I make some stuff myself, but it's more Mexicanish rather than really Mexican. Ah, well. The fact that there's still a few really good Chinese places here is some consolation.

And I honestly have no idea what the difference between a tamale and an enchilada is. I love Mexican, but I'm the boring guy who always gets a burrito, beans, and rice. Much the same with me. There used to be a restaurant chain up here called Mexicali Rosa's that was pretty good, but I don't know anything about Mexican food.

Tamales are cooked in a corn husk, which you open and then eat the contents. (Don't laugh but the first time I had a tamale here in Oklahoma I tried to eat the whole thing. lol) Enchiladas are wrapped and cooked in a tortilla, flour usually, and you can consume them as is. At least that's the Tex-Mex way of doing it.

At least that's the Tex-Mex way of doing it. If the enchilada is in a flour tortilla it's a burrito, not an enchilada. The corn husks on the tamale (though banana leaves are used a lot in southern Mexico) are used to hold and maintain the form of the masa outer portion of the tamale while they're steaming. The masa used in tamales is prepared very differently from the way that corn tortillas are prepared. Masa for tamales is prepped with lard (or shortening) salt and baking powder. Tortillas also use masa but it's made into a dough with water, flattened and then either put on a flat-top or, traditionally, baked. They're very distinct dishes.

Which One would you eat today? Toast with jam or bagel with cream cheese? Quick fix breakfast these are for those on the run to start the morning. My go to is toast and jam to nibble on. Preferably some grape jelly or orange marmalade to wake up the tastebuds.

I'd eat this on toast, bagel, crumpet, shoe leather or even an old piece of re-tread tire. It's that good.
Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to find in many areas of the US. I've got a good online source for it, and it's also available through "Big Brother" Amazon, not surprisingly.
Our UK brethren can simply walk down to the corner Tesco shop and pick it up anytime.

I'm not a fan of cream cheese, I prefer peanut butter or just butter on my bagels, so given the choices here, it would be toast with grape jam or jelly. Of course that begs the question-what kind of toast? Toasted French bread is my preferred choice for toast, then Texas Toast, then sour dough.
But course for me, an English muffin (though really neither English or a muffin) with grape jam or jelly beats them all.

If I were eating gluten I might go for the bagel & cream cheese - I haven't found a gluten-free bagel that's worthy of the name. But there are a lot of delicious gluten-free breads, so I'll take toast & jam.
