I heard a song with genre references on the way to work this morning and thought about others of that sort. I couldn't find a thread on this, so let's play "name that song." Obviously you can Google the lyrics, but that's no fun. If you tag your answer as a Spoiler then other people can still guess. Here's today's lyric: I wonder what it's like to be a super heroI wonder where I'd go if I could fly around downtown. From some other planet, I get this funky high on yellow sun.Boy I bet my friends will all be stunned!
I will also keep a running tab of the songs that have already been done in the spoilers below, in case people want to check for duplicates before posting in the future: Matchbox 20: Real World Paul McCartney & Wings: Magneto and Titanium Man Crash Test Dummies: Superman's Song Donovan: Sunshine Superman The Kinks: (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman T.Rex: Mambo Sun The Refreshments: Banditor Five for Fighting: Superman (It's Not Easy) Genesis: The Carpet Crawlers Spin Doctors: Jimmy Olsen's Blues Barenaked Ladies: One Week Nena: 99 Red Balloons Beastie Boys: Intergalactic Daya: Hide Away Karyn White: Superwoman Weezer: In the Garage The Clique: Superman (also covered by R.E.M.) Queen: Flash Kirby Krackle: Great Lakes Avengers The Mighty Marvel Marching Society Jim Croce: You Don't Mess Around with Jim Jim Croce: Lover's Cross Newcleus: Jam On It Sufjan Stevens: The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts 3 Doors Down: Kryptonite Neil Patrick Harris: My Freeze Ray (from Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog) The Staccatos: Super Girl Traits: Nobody Loves the Hulk David Bowie: Starman Black Sabbath: Iron Man (covered by The Cardigans) Blue Oyster Cult: Black Blade Bob Schneider: Superman Jonathan Coulton f/Ellen McLain: You Wouldn't Know Bonnie Tyler: Holding Out for a Hero (covered by Frou Frou for Shrek 2) Vanilla Ice: Ninja Rap

MRP is correct; that one was "Real World" by Matchbox 20. Here's the next one:
But when the Crimson Dynamo finally assured me, Well, I knew you was involved in a robbery That was due to happen at a quarter to three On Main Street

I can think of a lot of '60s songs with comic book references if we run short.

Superman or Green Lantern ain't got a-nothin' on me, I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea.

Is that the Kinks?
I was thinking Donovan for the other one but couldn't remember the tune, even now that the title has been divulged. Trying to stubbornly wait for it to come back to me instead of listneing to it.
