mars, I LOVE that Druillet avatar ! That's from the Voyages of Lone Sloane or something like that--I'd bought that and a couple other color HC albums when my family visited France in '75 or so. Sold them a few years back.

Well I ordered the first volume of Wasteland, I'll post my thoughts when it arrives and I have a chance to read through it.

Lucifer is a must. And the Merv Pumpkinhead one-shot is a hoot. I don't remember the Thessaly books that well...but the art is spiffy.

Sold them a few years back. Not sure I still have that or not. I'm afraid the ex-wife got it, along my tons of other stuff.
As far as Sandman spin-offs, the only one I didn't like was The Sandman Presents : Bast. The dialogue by Caitlin Kiernan wasn't very good IMO, though the story was predictable and formulaic. Nice art by Joe Bennett and cover by Mr. Sandman hisself, Dave McKean. I was annoyed when I finished with it.

Fatale - Read in tpb, it's almost over actually. Great stuff! I read the first trade of Fatale, and maybe it's my english that's not good enough, but I'm not sure I understood everything that was going on. Won't get the second one, unless not until I re-read the first one and can make a sense of it. Only current series I follow right now in floppies from Image are Alex + Ada and Minimum Wage, which I both love! I thought Fatale was going to be like the Crminal series where they were for the most part not connected arcs but was plesantly surprised when I discovered it was an ongoing. Each tpb is in a different time period though, so you can read them apart but they read best from the beginning. The last arc I read was awesome. Oh, I read Alex + Aida #1 and ordered the tpb.

Personally, I would recommend Starman from that list. I stopped Preacher after the second trade for the same reason Wildfire did. Fables is good, but both Fables and Starman read better as one whole story I think, so finishing Starman before you start Fables seems like a good idea. I agree that Starman is excellent, although it took me a bit to get into Robinson's writing style. The biggest beef I have is that I have read the first two omnibus volumes and now I'm stuck, because DC in their infinite wisdom cancelled the 3rd paperback release. It's silly that a big company like DC would start a release schedule and abort it part way through. DC needs to stick with their game plan and release the works.

I have been getting into some newer stuff lately and I have tracked done some stuff that (if worthwhile) is a very solid price. So if you veterans and savvy folks can tell me they are worth it, then I will buy them ASAP.
Brubaker's Daredevil...which issues/runs are the best, if any Secret Invasion series by Bendis...any good? Deadshot Mini series by Ostrander...heard it was a solid mini, and issue 2 at a local shop but did not pounce on it. Should I?

I hate anything Bendis has done with a deep pashion, but I'll give him full credit for being up there with Miller on Daredevil.
Ben-Day, that's why I wait until it's all collected.
I totally agree.
Why would a company not publish what they started ? That's a commitment to the market. I don't buy nearly as much as I used to because of moves like this.

The idea of a Skrul infiltration was intriguing to me, but I started a 5 year hiatus from new comics right before #1 came out. When I was getting back in, I snagged the trade of Secret Invasion from Half Price Books to read to see how it turned out. On my next trip back to Half Price Books, I sold it back knowing I would never pick it up again. Such a missed opportunity on Marvel's part. The Deadshot mini is a solid read, if you liked any part of Ostrander's Suicide Squad, it should appeal to you. Bru's DD run was ongoing when I took my hiatus, I enjoyed what I read up until I left comics, but I am just now starting to get around to finding the rest to finish reading it. -M

I've heard good things about the Death: The High Cost of Living miniseries as well but haven't read it yet.

Most of the stuff is up for a buck, buck twenty five so I may just get it all anyways. I recently started reading Ostrander's work, his Spectre stuff is solid

I have four series I started and was reading before I got laid off almost three years ago. II think I'm finally ready to start with one. Maybe y'all could tell me what you think. I'd been collecting them in trades. Fables V1. Which y'all have commented on. But since I've never read the first one yet, I'll probably save it for last. Preacher HC1-3. Keep going? I really enjoyed the start of it, especially Jesse's family background and up where I am. The heavenly war is a bit of a blah then and probably even more so than now as my wife constsntly watches Supernatural. Starman Omnibus 1-3. I've enjoyed everything in this series. I don't remember not liking any part so far. I hope it continues to be good. This is one I think I'd like to stick with the omnibus too as it collects more than just the self titled series. Cerebus TPB 1-4. I'm thinking I might have read what I have again before I start a new one since it's an in depth series and it's been years since I read what I have. And I may do that with Preacher and Starman too, just to get the full effect of these series again. Fables, I like the idea of but have never gotten round to reading the first trade. It's still on my to-read list, but pretty far down. Preacher was excellent. My memory could be off, but I think that if you stopped at Volume 3, you've yet to read some of the most significant stuff about Jesse's family. Cerebus is something I read a few scattered issues of in the 80s but never went back to. I'd still like to read it some day. Starman I don't know anything about.
