Has anyone read this spin-off series of Neil Gaiman's Sandman?

The Dreaming is a mixed bag. It started out as arcs done by different writers and artists. At some point I think Caitlen Kiernan took over as the sole writer. The arcs varied in quality, but weren't ever better than okay. I gave up about a year to a year and a half in.
Might be worth it at 50 cents a pop...but not at much more.

I have four series I started and was reading before I got laid off almost three years ago. II think I'm finally ready to start with one. Maybe y'all could tell me what you think. I'd been collecting them in trades.
Fables V1. Which y'all have commented on. But since I've never read the first one yet, I'll probably save it for last.
Preacher HC1-3. Keep going? I really enjoyed the start of it, especially Jesse's family background and up where I am. The heavenly war is a bit of a blah then and probably even more so than now as my wife constsntly watches Supernatural.
Starman Omnibus 1-3. I've enjoyed everything in this series. I don't remember not liking any part so far. I hope it continues to be good. This is one I think I'd like to stick with the omnibus too as it collects more than just the self titled series.
Cerebus TPB 1-4. I'm thinking I might have read what I have again before I start a new one since it's an in depth series and it's been years since I read what I have. And I may do that with Preacher and Starman too, just to get the full effect of these series again.

A lot of great talent on The Dreaming, but it never really coalesces into something more than second-rate Gaiman rehash. Caitlin Kiernan gave it more of a direction, but the direction isn't all that interesting. I will say that Christian Hoogard turns in some very nice art during Kiernan's run, but it's not enough to really make it a buy, in my opinion. Unless you're getting a great deal.

I mostly enjoyed it... it had alot of fun character bits.. not a huge amount going on as far as story goes that I recall. I'd probably go $1 a pop

Cerebus I felt was getting too preachy for me, though I might feel differently now (I read it probably 10-15 years ago). Preacher, I just kinda got sick of the over the top-ness of it all. I greatly enjoyed the first Starman arc.. I'll be reading more soon

Preacher is easily in my top ten favorite books. Might even be top five.

Personally, I would recommend Starman from that list. I stopped Preacher after the second trade for the same reason Wildfire did. Fables is good, but both Fables and Starman read better as one whole story I think, so finishing Starman before you start Fables seems like a good idea.

Someday going to read Starman. I've heard so much good about it, but only have a few scattered issues.
Cerebus varies, though I stopped getting the singles around 120 or so.
Preacher is a truly wonderous thing.

There are also several Sandman Presents spin-off mini series (Lucifer, The Corinthian, Merv Pumpkinhead, etc.) I'm curious if any of them are worth reading?

Lucifer is always awesome I remember liking the Corinthian, but I don't recall if that was from his mini series, or in the regular book. Merv is good comic relief

Preacher is probably the most surprised I've ever been by a comic. I'm inclined to agree with Slam that it's a top ten book.

I'd go with Lucifer and the Merv Pumpkinhead one-shot. I never read the Corinthian. I'd also recommend Jill Thompson's Little Books of Dreaming and the Death: At Death's Door manga. Both are a lot of fun.

Bill Willingham's Thessaly minis with Sean McManus are very good, too. There's two minis, and I believe they're collected under in one tpb with an issue of The Dreaming Bill did. (Bill also did a Merv Pumpkinhead secret agent one-shot that's okay. It may be collected in that volume, too, but I'm not sure.)
I liked The Corinthian, but a lot of people didn't. It does revolve around a tiny continuity point from the first issue, and I think that goes over a lot of people's heads. It also depends on how you feel about Daniel Zezjel's art-- I love it, but it's not for everyone.
Dead Boy Detectives is decent, but I expect better from Ed Brubaker and Bryan Talbot. I also think that the Dead Boy Detectives are pretty much the least interesting aspect of the Sandman mythos, so I'm definitely biased. (I actually like the new series, though.)
Love Street is a really a John Constantine story that uses elements from Sandman like Raji and Fawney Rig. It's good, but more if you're a fan of John. I wish that Vertigo had published Marquee Moon, its follow-up. It is supposedly completed, and it has D'Israeli art!
I didn't like Petrefax at all, despite a quality creative team.
Jill Thompson's Lil' Endless and Dead Boy Detectve work is completely charming, but not really my thing. I'd rather just read Beasts of Burden.
