Ah right --- gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. I always associate "X-Men" as Lee/Kirby era (unless you're talking about the Jim Lee and Claremont one), and "Uncanny" as Claremont era. And I forgot that they switched the title from Classic X-Men to X-Men Classic part of the way through the run. It didn't even occur to me until now that the change happened when they started reprinting the issues following the addition of "Uncanny" to the title. Learn something new every day!

I'm sure the title change was part of Marvel's initiative at the time to have all the titles in a 'family' next to each other on the rack... West Coast Avengers changed to Avengers West Coast, and Solo Avengers changed to Avengers Spotlight around that same time.
If the content lines up, I suspect that's a happy co-incidence.

I was thinking of getting the two Showcase volumes of Challengers of the Unknown. I'm pretty sure the stories would appeal to me (assuming they are similar to Doom Patrol #102), but I'm wondering about the lack of color. Said issue of Doom Patrol was in their second Showcase volume and I had no trouble, but I seem to recall when the Showcase volumes first came out that people complained they couldn't tell the characters apart without color. I'm not sure if the confusion was due to one particular artists' work, though.

I have the first one (and, in fact, have reviewed the first couple issues in the "Wildfire reads silver age DCU" thread).. .the art is pretty good in black and white... I don't really miss the color at all. While I can see having some difficult visually picking out the characters, it's really not that important to the stories (at least the first couple) which is which anyway.

Good to know, I'll add them to my list.

Anyone have any opinions on Ordway's 'Power of Shazam!' series? I'm mildly interested in checking it out after the crossover with Starman

Anyone have any opinions on Ordway's 'Power of Shazam!' series? I'm mildly interested in checking it out after the crossover with Starman Start with the Power of Shazam! graphic novel. It was one of my favorite series of the 1990s. I liked it even more than Starman.

I loved Assault on Olympus and am enjoying War & Remembrance. I'm considering Absolute Vision (Avengers #231-254 & annuals 11-13). Is it safe to assume I'll enjoy these?

I never had a problem with these. Roger Stern just had a really good handle on the Avengers. Where you might get a little disappointed is with the Al Milgrom art.

Right on. I was mainly worried about it being a bad stretch writing-wise. I can usually tolerate art if the writing is there, which is the case with Stern so far (not that the art is bad).

Milgrom's art is different, but I like it more and more as I get older. Really used to not like it. BTW, I love Ordway's Shazam series. It was wonderful. Don't know how anyone wouldn't like it. Sorely under-appreciated IMO.

Kyle Baker had a few inking jobs in those Avengers and WCA issues that I really like, too.

I really like Al Milgrom's covers. The guy just had a knack for them.
His writing, penciling and inking can be hit or miss.
I find his inks to be absolutely terrible. They ruined some of Starlin's classic Warlock tales.
Writing-wise? I like his Hulk issues and even his Peter Parker stories are ok. Nothing mind-blowing.
His pencils do have that classic feel but during Avengers Sinnott really helped Al out on the Avengers run.
