We have a thread about cover artists not doing the inside art. Kirby did plenty of those. So this contests is to post a classic Kirby cover of a book for which he did NO interior art whatsoever. Let us know who did the inside art as well. My example is this cool cover for Strange Tales #107, great Kirby cover, Dick Ayers art inside.
The rules:
Post one classic cover that fits the theme of the contest.
Covers must be posted before voting begins.
Voting takes place on Tuesday, June 16, beginning at 12:01 am PST and ending at 11:59 pm PST.
Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or whose cover you simply like the best.
Put your choice's name in bold.
The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends.
The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest.
If you don't think a cover fits the theme, don't vote for it. Please don't post disparaging remarks about it.
If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point that out so that the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins.
Two posters may not use the same cover.

so. . I'm one of *those* people, who absolutely despise Kirby's art. never liked it, and feel many a great story was ruined by terrible Kirby art (and he's the main reason I've never really liked the 4th world characters (unless drawn by someone else), and have never been able to get into "the Eternals" despite trying many times. Same is true of "Kamandi" and a few other titles  but that's all personal opinion, and just a way of saying, it's rare I'd have a favorite Kirby cover. . since it would not entice me to buy a book.
Fine. . . Kirby complained that the cover I provided didn't meet his criteria.
so rather than sit this week out, here's a Fantastic Four cover Kirby did where they don't look like they all got smacked in the face with a brick. I actually own this one too somewhere, since Kirby only did the cover

so. . THIS one, however, I DO own (and love this cover). . and even tho Kirby contributes art on one of the stories inside (as well as the cover)?. . . art inside the book is also by Steve Ditko, Don Heck, and others. . and even the 1 Kirby drawn story, he's inked by Dick Ayers - which made it more palatable to me. anyways, here's my entry this week:  I can't help it if you hate Kirby, but since Kirby drew the cover story inside, this in no ways qualifies for this contest. It's not comics with Kirby art as well as others, it's Kirby doing ONLY the cover for the book and no interior work. I will leave it at that. |
