In some interviews Kirby's said (or was paraphrased) that he didn't particularly like to do covers; what interested him was the storytelling in the pages of the comic he was working on. Well, you can't tell me there's no storytelling on this cover! Avengers #20 is without a doubt my all-time favorite #1 King Kirby cover. Interior art here by Don Heck and Wally Wood.

It's interesting that there are more covers from Kirby's 70s return to Marvel than his Silver Age period.

It's interesting that there are more covers from Kirby's 70s return to Marvel than his Silver Age period. The one I posted stands out in my mind only because it really doesn't look like it's Kirby. Back when Essentials came out I was buying the HoM and HoS (and other horror titles) that were not financially feasible to collect the single issues of, I would look through the covers after reading the trades. And when I saw that one on Lone Star's site, with Kirby credits I was like "wow that looks very different from his Thor issues" (which is the bulk of what Kirby art I own comes from).

I don’t think anyone posted an X-men cover he did when he returned in the 70’s.

After discovering Starlin's Adam Warlock the owner of the LCS I went to at that time in the 90's turned me on to Him, which was Kirby in FF and Thor. I didn't really care for him on FF, but on Thor he was really impressive and dynamic. So I bought more issues of Thor that Kirby had done. My favorite Kirby cover of all time comes from Thor. But wasn't applicable for this contest since he did the interior art as well. NOT A ENTERY
