Zoom was a new character. He was not Professor Zoom. Thanks, didn't know that. there are apparently 3 versions of the character running around in DC these days: Professor Zoom Reverse-Flash Zoom
I thought the 1st 2 were the same person, but apparently not!

DC Comics Presents seems affordable except for #26 which has the 16 pg preview of New Teen Titans. #47 is also a killer but that's due to it being first comic appearance of He-Man and Masters of the Universe. add in #27 to that list of expensive issues for the first appearance of Mongul. It's now a $40+ book in high grade and even mid-grade can run you $20-$30. -M Why is Mongul popular ?

It's Starlin baby! And he is a big physical opponent that can stand up to trading blows with Superman. Not too many of those in Supe's villain gallery. Also a cool design visually. A total kick butt creation of a Kirby super villain archetype from Starlin and a Polar Opposite of Darkseid who is visually scary as all get out but in a more cerebral way.

The episode of Justice League animated that adapted the Alan Moore story featuring Mongul (For the Man Who has Everything from one of the Superman Annual #11, which in itself is a $50+ book in high grade) is one of the most popular episodes of the series and raised Mongul's popularity and status in fandom to the point where in 2013 they released a trade collection of Superman vs. Mongul so it is not just the first appearance that gets premium prices. -M

Mongul was a Thanos clone. To paraphrase an editor's comments about another character... Mongul is Thanos done right! -M

Mongul was a Thanos clone. and there are more than a fair number of people who dismiss Thanos as nothing by a Darkseid clone too... -M

I saw the Justice League cartoon and it was good. Used to have the DC Comic Presents with him in but not all that memorable I didn't think.

And the physical resemblance is more than coincidental.

Except Darkseid doesn't need a glove.... or a big fancy collar...

And to come full circle, all too many writers tend to write Darkseid as a Thanos clone.

Sure, I have plenty of runs of good titles with absolutely no run killers-- most of them are independent books though. Eclipse Comics' DNAgents series, That first DNAgents run now has a run killer in it as #24 can go for a couple hundred in high grade if it's graded (CGC etc.) or anywhere form $60-$100 in high grade raw because of the Dave Stevens cover. Ihaven't seen a sniff of a copy in the wild in over 4 years of searching, and online prices are wild on it. -M Airboy #5 has a great Dave Stevens cover too. Slabbed hi-grade copies on eBay start off at $50. Loose, depending on the subjective grading, you looking at anywhere from $8 to around $20.

They certainly used to be, but who knows now. Eobard Thawne, the first Reverse-Flash, was called by that name but also used the alias Professor Zoom. Hunter Zolomon, the second Reverse-Flash, usually went by the alias of Zoom only.
