The Deadpool stuff in general is crazy. I would have never thought starting collecting 20 years ago that mostly obscure characters like Deadpool, Thanos and Harley would make my collection now worth something. A status it has never really had as a whole.

I'm sure Rob Liefeld is laughing himself to the bank seeing that. And with the popularity of the character due to the movies hitting the mainstream is going to escalate more of those original art from his early New Mutants work that has Deadpool.

Did Liefeld own the piece? I can't find who owned it.

Having a character become much more than he was created to be is like hitting the lotto. The Deadpool in the movies bares little resemblance to the one that appeared in New Mutants #98. It's nice that he gets a little recognition, if not any recompense for the creation. It's kind of sad that Jim Starlin got more money from DC for a character that he created that was used in Batman vs Superman , than in all the Movie appearances of Thanos put together. But those were the contracts back in the day.

But those were the contracts back in the day. Fixed it for you to fit typical fan attitudes. Sad creators get screwed, but hey what can you do as long as I hget my super-hero fix and the big 2 hold on to their characters so I can keep doing so. -M

I am merely acknowledging what the situation is as regards to the older creators and their work. I'm glad that things have changed. Kirkman is doing okay from his Walking Dead show.

And DC, at least from the mid-70s through the '90s - was a lot more creator friendly in terms of financial payouts for characters used in outside media. Len Wein made more money from co-creating Luscius Fox (who was used in the Dark Knight films) than he did for Wolverine.

I never liked Liefield. Never thought his art was any good. I don't recall ever buying a comic by him. His creations, yes, like Alan Moore's Supreme, but not by Liefield. That said, this solicitation for a Hit -Girl cover he did isn't bad.

That said, this solicitation for a Hit -Girl cover he did isn't bad. He used his daughter as a photo reference for that. It helped compensate for his lack of training in basic human anatomy and perspective.

Criticism of his art hardly denotes hate; other than possibly hating his art (I wasn't a fan, other than when Karl Kessel heavily fixed his stuff). I have seen more recent era samples that are a vast improvement over past work. Rob was a guy who really needed some mentoring by a seasoned pro (much like McFarlane got from Dick Giordano and John Romita). He never really had any formal art training and it shows in his earlier work. He learned to do some stock poses and hit upon a style that worked well enough for the 90s audience, channeling a lot of pop culture into his designs and characters (or ripping off better known characters, depending on your point of view). However, much like Rich Buckler, back in the day, he was busted all over the place for swiping poses, panels and entire layouts, without credit. He was one of the most high profile offenders of that. It was nothing new; but, he was rather blatant about it and the general attitude presented by him, at the time, drew a ton of flak over it. Rob was young and full of ego, which did help fuel his success (though timing was a big part of things), but also got him into a bit of trouble, with some things he sad and did. These days, he seems to be a lot more mellow and it appears that he has actually worked on some of his deficiencies.

Rob Liefeld has accomplished 1000 times more in comics than all you haters combined - FACT! Plus, hes a pretty cool cat! No need to get arsey about it. If you happen to like Liefeld's art, that's great. Art appreciation is subjective though and not everyone agrees with you. Expressing dislike for an artist's style is not being a "hater". Nobody here is attacking Liefeld personally. In fact, there are plenty of comments in this thread about what a friendly, stand-up guy he is. On a more serious note, please watch your tone. We have very strict rules here at the CCF regarding personal attacks on other forum members. You haven't crossed any line yet, but labelling other forum members as "haters" comes very close. So, please be mindful of the tone of your comments and refrain from writing anything that might be perceived as an attack on other posters. Thank you.
