I'll say this. It took awhile for me to work up a distaste for Rob Liefeld. But Humberto Ramos I couldn't stand from the beginning and each year I think my dislike grows. I hate to admit this but months ago in The Spider-Man thread I shared my hate for Ramos. I shouldn't have done this but i wrote that my dog's vomit looks better than what Ramos drew. Dan Slott got so angry at that comment he wrote back to say he was quitting the CBR forum. I got a warning from the mods that I went over the top but did not get banned. So yeah it was a juvenile comment. But my dog's barf is better than Ramos art

I never liked Humberto Ramos either. I can list a few others as well- Angel Medina, Dick Dillin among them.

Curious, who would you guys say is the best least intolerable character Liefeld ever created?
Cable, Deadpool or someone else entirely?
Although over-saturated in the Marvel Universe, I'll probably go with Deadpool.

Currently, he's the best among the artists responsible for ASM. Not a stiff competition, granted.

I stand (or sit as the case may be) corrected. However, I am among those who disagree it was better than his earlier stuff, but that is entirely subjective. -M there's a very good article by Brian Cronin on it all. I much prefer the actual page layouts in the later work - figuratively though its a bit brutal link(had to laugh - only on classic comics board would one of the first major discussions of an artist be on herb trimpe)

Cable is Liefeld's best creation, by far. Deadpool doesn't interest me. Frankly, I don't really get why he is so popular.
The funny story I heard about Deadpool's creation is that when Liefeld turned in the original designs for the character, Fabian Nicieza said, "This is Deathstroke." Which is why the character is named Wade Wilson - Fabian gave him that name as a joke about how much of a Deathstroke (real name: Slade Wilson) ripoff he was.

I'll agree Cable was his best creation, though I am not much of a fan of Cable. I do however have a soft spot for the issues of Cable Ladronn did the art for. -M

To me, Cable is just another of the 'big guns and bad attitude' characters typical of the 90s. Plus he opened the floodgates on characters travelling back from the future that contributed to my abandoning the X-books.

I'd argue it was Rachel Summers who opened that floodgate, not Cable, and the gate itself was created by Days of Future Past, an unintended consequence of what is considered by most a classic story. Cable had the classic pathos/feet of clay hearkening back to the early days of Marvel, the technovirus that was killing him was needed to keep his powers in check, etc. He was big gun with bad attitude, but there was more to him as well, which is what set him apart from most (all?) of Liefeld's other creations. -M PS I would also add that Claremont and Davis' Cross time caper in Excalibur ripped that floodgate wide open before Cable was even created.

I think most of the Cable development you are recalling was post-Liefeld. Under Liefeld he was pretty straightforward. Mysterious past, secrets he hides, big guns, a soldier, not a hero. Ready to make the hard choices.

And man is this some serious thread drift. Perhaps we could discuss the relative merits of Liefeld as a creator elsewhere and give people a chance to introduce themselves.
I agree the merits of Liefeld's work is an important topic with very little discussion on the internet devoted to it.
