Now THIS is the Marvel show i'm looking forward to seeing. The best part of the MCU always centered on Captain America's corner of the universe, including his allies. me too! I don't watch much TV but this will be one show I will looking forward to watching

Well that was a good start, great action sequence to kick things off, and I liked how they dealt with real life after the blip, introduced a new villain, and gave us a Rhodey cameo. I'm very interested in how the end reveal will play out!

Good first impression (not really sure what counts for spoilers these days so I'll just do all of it) also great to see Batroc back. Loved Sam's speech at the Smithsonian and while Sam getting to grips with how his family's life has played out since he was dusted was interesting, I was more engaged with Bucky's side of things
Was a bit let down that all we saw this episode was a brief glimpse of John towards the end, but it's a good setup of things to come. Liked how Flagsmasher was incorporated as some internet faction

I really liked the first episode. Perhaps this is just more my speed. WandaVision was different, and I can appreciate it for what it is, and it's themes, but I'm more interested in the aftermath of Captain America's legacy.

Both James Rhodes and War Machine have already been big parts of the MCU, and here it was just Rhodey, not even the armor. But, great for you and your bank account, my friend. Really enjoyed the show. Obviously it's got a much different tone and style than WandaVision, more akin to the movies, but it still had it's own feel to it from a Captain America movie. {What I Loved} Great seeing Batroc back in action, and maybe with the closer aligning of the MCU with the comics, maybe Batroc returns to his roots from Tales of Suspense as an actual bad-ass instead of a goofy French steroetype.
With how social media has changed organizing political movements, it makes sense that it isn't Flagsmasher anymore but an organization of Flagsmashers. They still had the same goal as in the comic (the eradication of national borders and an opening of the world), but now it has a very modern feel to it instead of just being a costumed super-villain.
Fantastic action sequence with Sam at the beginning, but the show did the quiet stuff (Sam and his sister, Bucky and his therapist as well as Bucky with the old man and Bucky with the bartender on their "date") really well. Have to balance the big moments with the human stuff to keep the series from veering too hard one way or the other, and this accomplished that.
And man, even with just the glimpse of his smarmy mug at the end, I know I am going to wind up HATING John Walker. His face is just so punchable.

I got that book out of the bargain bin. Why is it worth more that 'Demon in a Bottle'? Speculators really hurt my head... on the one hand, I want to sell this stuff, and get it again later when the bubble pops, but do I really want 50000 $1 comics? It's a weird thing.
I thought the show was fine, but it didn't really thrill me. The opening action sequence was good, but the scenes with Sam's sister didn't ring true at all..from the strained conflict we don't really know the background of to the attempts to show hero worship and racism at the same time.
The scene with Bucky and his date was better.. but did he just leave? What the heck? I feel like the 'making amends for past deeds' story has been done to death, but maybe they'll have it be something interesting.

Watched the first episode the other night, and I was...bored? That first fight scene was so drawn out and tedious, and none of the plot nor character arcs that followed engaged me all that much.
Sam Wilson's losing the family business. I don't really care about Sam yet, so this didn't mean much to me. It felt a little like pandering to all of us struggling during covid, but not tactfully. Bucky's characterization was a little stronger, but we've been there and done that with tortured anti-heroes by this point. The final twist with USAgent didn't leave me begging to watch more the way Wandavision did either.
In fact, I think the biggest problem I had with this first episode was that there's no real plot yet...nothing to keep us invested beyond shallow characterizations of a hero down on his luck and a reformed monster with a confession to make.
I'm not saying this series can't still wow me, but I'm continuing to watch on the strength of WandaVision, and not because anything in this first episode did anything particularly right in my book. Great special effects, but I'd rather have deep characters and a compelling story.

I think one of the themes the show is going to explore is the idea of Captain America's shield being wielded by a Black man, and all the baggage and complexity that image conjures. I think the writers are trying to prime us for that by showing some of his non-superhero life, including everything associated with being Black in America. That's probably a necessary stepping stone, since up until now we've only seen Sam Wilson in his role as Falcon in the MCU, but I agree that it was a little ham-fisted in its execution.

And yet, at the same time, it wasn't bold enough. That bank loan rejection was never about race, even implicitly (beyond the banker initially assuming he knew Sam because he was a football player). If Marvel is going for that, they could have been far more real and daring. Plenty of latent racism could have been depicted in that scene and wasn't. I would have been impressed by that.

Is there any plans for WandaVision or Falcon Winter Soldier being released on DVD? Nothing has been said yet about DVD releases. Not even Madalorian Season 1 has had any announcement about a DVD release yet, so if they do eventually release it on DVD, I am willing to bet it will be som time yet as they want to use these series to build Disney + subscription base, not sell DVD/blurays. -M

Nagging thought coming out of the first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it isn't much of a spoiler. We learn in this episode that the Avengers do not receive a paycheck for what they do. They even joke about the idea of Tony Stark cutting them a check (like in the classic comics). Here's where I struggle with this idea -- The Avengers were created by SHIELD. Nick Fury personally recruited each member. Nick Fury gets a paycheck. Everyone who works for Nick Fury gets a paycheck. Why are the Avengers exempted from this?
