I hope MRP is right... he has far more faith in the writers than I do. I am just trying to enjoy the show for what it is and going in with an open mind-sure I'll speculate as things go along, but I try not to let it affect how I perceive what the show is. I do not want to fall into the trap of evaluating it based on what I expect it to be and thus setting a self-fulfilling prophecy/vicious circle that ensures I won't enjoy it because it's not what I expect/want. Everyone has expectations, but I am trying to avoid having my expectations bias my experience of the show. My issue with most of the pre-Disney Marvel TV shows (except Agent Carter) is that they were too long/too many episodes and there was a lot of drag, a lot of filler, and a lot of bad pacing that sometimes made the seasons slogs to get through even when there was good stuff there. With the Disney+ shows, they are more compact and so far that has paid off with Wandavision. I was not enamored with the Wandavision until around episode 4/5 when all the ingredients started mixing together and started paying off. If I made a snap judgment after 3 episodes, I would have said it was ok, but not living up to the hype/expectations. But I didn't, I bided my time and waited until it all paid off and man, I ended up loving the show. It avoided the drag on the too long seasons on the Marvel shows on ABC and Netflix (and all of the DC/CW shows who share the same flaw). So I am biding my time on this one too. There are things I really like about the show, and things I am iffy on and waiting to see how they pay off, but I am not going to make a snap judgment after 3 episodes. It's not about having faith in the writers, it's about managing my own expectations and biases, especially regarding an unfinished product. -M

Interesting the responses here. I'm largely enjoying the show. More so than WandaVision, which I found to drag on way too long with the various eras of television, and "grief" as the bad guy. Felt like that was hammered to death, and just not that interesting. But at least it was different.

But by far, the sweetest bit: {Spoiler: Click to show} They name-dropped Latvia. Oh yeah. I'd be more excited if they name dropped Latveria. -M Hahaha, you're right. I saw the first three letters and my mind must've filled in the rest of what I wanted to see. Although, in the scene in that country where Zemo told how the remnants of his destroyed homeland were gobbled up by neighboring countries, that does seem like a tactic a certain despot ruler would use.

I'd be more excited if they name dropped Latveria. Literally the only thing that had me excited in that first episode was the hope of exactly that. Beyond that, our family now has a running joke of referring to this show as the "Bank loans and being sad in bars" show. "What threat will they face next--filing taxes??" We tried the second episode and didn't feel it got much better. Based on all that I'm seeing here about episode three, we'll sit this one out unless the final three episodes start blowing some minds.

Episode 4 was a lot better than 3. Basically the turning point in the series. Hopefully it all comes together for a cool climax

Best episode of the series by far. Man that was awesome. I guess if you aren't board by this point, then it's probably not your show.
That was some damn fine television though. For a superhero show at least.

Well, that was a huge step in the right direction. {Spoiler: Click to show}The quiet scenes between Sam and Zemo (discussing the nature of "supremacy") as well as between Sam and Karli (discussing what her and the Flag-Smashers' goals were) were really well-done. Even the phone call between Karli and Sam's sister was subtly effective, as it pointed more to the similarities in their situations than the differences.
Also enjoyed the decent, albeit too brief, encounter between Walker and the Dora Milaje. The arrogance that he displayed and how he questioned THEIR right to be there, even though he had no more than they, was pretty telling. Loved seeing them hand him his ass.
Sorry to see Lamar gone. I actually liked him and felt he was a reasonable character, which served as a nice counterpoint to Walker, who is obviously not terribly stable.
Not surprised that John Walker wound up taking the Super-Soldier Serum, seeing as he is under incredible pressure to fill Steve's shoes. However, as Dr. Erskine said way back in CA:TFA, all it does is magnify what was already inside the man (or woman), and the conversation between Lamar and John about what they "had to do" in Afghanistan to earn their medals merely foreshadowed that it was likely going to turn out terribly wrong.
That last scene was really jarring. The image of the blood smearing the shield was incredibly powerful, at least in my household. My older daughter was especially moved by it, as she just said "that's not Captain America. He doesn't do that."

Agreed on all points, this episode was really what I was waiting for this show to be from the start; a nice mix of action, drama and some great character work. Here's hoping they can find a suitable ending. Unlike WandaVision, which I think worked really well episodically, Falcon and Winter Soldier really feels more like a movie that's been split up into pieces so far so I'm thinking I'll enjoy it more when it's all out.

Of course, the twenty minute fight scene in the first episode (in which nothing was actually at stake) suggested from the start that this thing may just have bad pacing, regardless of how you watch it.

Yeah, that's kind of been an issue all along there have been some really cool looking fight scenes but they don't do a whole lot plot wise. As an aside though, I absolutely love the guy who plays Zemo. Every scene he's in is just fantastic.

He's been in 7 Days at Entebbe, Inglourious Basterds, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Joyeux Noel (about the 1914 Christmas truce). He is starring in a new version of All Quiet on the Western Front.

As an aside though, I absolutely love the guy who plays Zemo. Every scene he's in is just fantastic. That's Daniel Bruhl, one of Germany's leading actors. He's been in 7 Days at Entebbe, Inglourious Basterds, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Joyeux Noel (about the 1914 Christmas truce). He is starring in a new version of All Quiet on the Western Front. Inglourious Basterds is probably my favorite Tarantino film, and Daniel Bruhl is so good in that.

Bruhl also plays the lead in Netflix's adaptation of the Alienist/Angel of Darkness
