Those trading card prices are NUTS. I feel like those were practically being given away last time I saw them at a card show (granted, baseball card guys don't care much about non-sports), but man... what's driving that? Just general nostalgia? Based on discussions on the CGC forum, there's a general consensus that a lot of the speculation in comics is being driven by sports card dealers with deep pockets who see a market they can manipulate. Which is what happened in the 90s as well. The graded comic trading card thing in particular seems to be market manipulation by card dealers now that grading companies are grading these kinds of cards. They pump the cards up, other people see the inflated prices and jump on the hit trend and suddenly they are "worth" ten times overnight. But I don't think there's a real market, otherwise these would've already had value. This is all just perceived value. In other words, I'll happily buy the new hot collectible card as long as I can pay with rare, valuable tulips.

My hope is this crazy speculation frenzy will cause the original issues of What If? to shoot up, due to the animated show coming this summer. I've got most from 1-13 (unfortunately passed on buying #10 for likely $1-2 back in the day, and it's now the most valuable ish by far), plus a lot of the later keys. Didnt collect West Coast Avengers (well, not when Bryne took over anyway) and my only copy of Cap #323 was trashed by 10 year old me, so this is my best hope!
Seriously though, I stopped collecting before amassing a truly vast collection like a lot of folks around here, but I've got some potentially valuable books (nothing major, but some nice 70s/80s keys), and this sudden boom is tempting me to explore my options

I forgot the proposed What if series. I have the entire 47 issue run from the first series which I might be willing to sell.
* edit. A quick search shows that What If # 10 , the first Jane Foster Thor appearance, is jumping in price.

The first appearance of The Watcher is already getting the speculation bump. Heck, why not sell your What if?s and use the proceeds to expand out your collection?

I have a copy of that I am looking to unload, but I think I am going to wait until the actual trailers for the Jane Foster Thor movie hit to maximize my return on it. I got it out of a dollar bin about 8 years ago. I have a handful of other What If issues as well, the only ones I will definitely keep are the Conan related ones. -M

I wish Human Fly got some love. His books are still in the cheapo pile.

While I don't begrudge anyone making money on books due to TV/movies, it bugs me that rather than raising the status of comics, it really reinforces them as second-class. That is, the value is totally disconnected from whether a specific issue is written or drawn well, and only due to an "appearance." And that appearance is only valuable because of what's happening outside of comics.
It's like someone in 1982 saying, "Did you see that Marvel's coming out with an adaptation of Blade Runner? I better buy the VHS before the prices go up!"

Man, if you don't have those books and want them, you're at a bad time period. Timing is everything in life. Years ago I had to rebuy my Starlin Warlock issues and ended up getting them for around 2 dollars a piece. Shortly After that, the GOG movie hit and the prices jumped up dramatically. I had a similar experience. I bought a "lot" of Hulk Annuals - #5-10 - on eBay. Some were replacements of ones I no longer had, one was an upgrade of a beat up copy from when I was a kid, and a few were new to me. I wouldn't have paid more than $20 for everything. Then the GotG movie came out and now #5 (2nd appearance of Groot) is around $100.
I also had a couple Star-Lord appearances that went up a bit, but not that much.
I got lucky with the first Scott Lang Ant-Man too.
Technically I don't need to hold on to any of these (I have them all in omnibuses) but I kind of like having them.

Unless they do a What If...? Omnibus, I don't think I'll be selling any of mine. I actually regret selling off most of them years ago and have been slowly gathering them up again.
I do have an extra copy of #27, though.

A complete run of 1-47 recently sold for $500 straight up, but also for $182 in auction. High grade #10's are fetching around $125-200 though
