It goes without saying that the Legion of Super-Heroes and the JLA/JSA team-up are both awesome, but I really want to see Lois Lane as Batwoman! You know, I was hoping someone would bring up that cover image of Lois as Batwoman on that 1963 Giant, dbutler69 The Giant reprints a story from Lois Lane #14, from 1960. Is this a great zany Silver Age cover or what?! But inside the comic itself, here's how the cover scenario plays out: That's right--two panels. That's all we get of Lois "Batwoman" Lane. The #14 cover--and even the proud, confident Lois Batwoman on the Giant cover--deserve better than this!

This is an outstanding month for me, I totally ran out of money part way through. I'm thinking of starting to sell subscriptons of "Grit" in my spare time to help supplement my allowance.
Action #304 Adventure #312 Adventures of the Fly #27 (favorite cover from that series) Amazing Spider-Man #5 Aquaman #11 Avengers #1 Blackhawk #188 (Lady Blackhawk appearance) Fantastic Four #19 (Rama Tut!) Flash #139 (Reverse-Flash) Justice League of America #22 (JSA crossover)

Grit is a much more reliable source of pocket money than those stupid seed packet or greeting card rackets!
Grit was also a pretty interesting read... sort of like a cross between Guinness' Book of World Records and Weekly World News; but geared for the atomic family, and not nearly as sensationalized.

Marvel is taking way too much of my money. I may have to raise allowances soon! Amazing Spider-Man #5 Avengers #1 Fantastic Four #19 Fantastic Four Annual #1 (25 cents, darn it!) X-Men #1 Journey into Mystery #96 Adventure Comics #312 (A Legion classic - the return of Lightning Lad!!) Flash #139 (Reverse Flash!) Justice League of America #22 (JLA/JAS crossover continues - a must buy!!) There are some other attractive DC covers, but I'm one cent over as it is, and will have to take a penny out of the "take a penny, leave a penny" jar.

July 1963: here's how I'll spend my $1.20 allowance: Adventure #312 Can't beat that cover. DC 12 cents Aquaman #11 Debut of a new character--Mera! DC 12 cents Blackhawk #118 The quartet of characters shown on the cover look more glamorous than the FF. I'll buy this. DC 12 cents Fantastic Four #19 Despite the plain (IMO) covers, by now I'm invested in this team and its characters, so I'll buy this Marvel, 12 cents Fantastic Four Annual #1 an additional FF comic this month? Hell yeah I'll buy this. Marvel, 25 cents Justice League of America #22 second part of the JLA/JSA story that began last issue. DC, 12 cents Sue and Sally Smith, Flying Nurses #53 Another series I've become invested in. Charlton, 12 cents Superboy #107 How can I resist "Clark Kent, Super Show-Off"? DC, 12 cents X-Men #1 A new team book? I'll buy this. Marvel, 12 cents. I've bought a Giant comic again--so my total comes to $1.21. Good thing I have extra pennies in my pocket.

I'm just one isse shy of becoming a total Marvel Zombie at this point:
Amazing Spider-Man #5 ($.12) Avengers #1 ($.12) Fantastic Four #19 ($.12) Journey into Mystery #96 ($.12) Justice League of America #22 ($.12) Sgt. Fury #3 ($.12) Strange Tales #113 ($.12) Tales of Suspense #46 ($.12) Tales to Astonish #48 ($.12) X-Men #1 ($.12)
...and once again I'm forced to turn to crime to obtain the quarter that will net me the FF Annual.
Cei-U! I summon my cheapskate dad!

GREAT THREAD. I used to play this game in real life and there was no way I got that generous amount of $1.20. I would hang out at supermarkets, asking old people if they wanted my help carrying their groceries back to their house, and getting a quarter as a tip. At this point I had not discovered Marvel Comics yet, but for this game I'll ignore that fact
Adventure Comics #312 Amazing Spider-Man #5 Avengers #1 Fantastic Four #19 Flash #139 Fantastic Four Annual #1 Green Lantern #23 Justice League of America #22 X-Men #1
I'm over by a penny. Which means if I get money for a bus fare, I'll walk instead

Ah, time for summer reading! Adventure 312, one of the first few comics I ever bought for myself. Still remember buying it. Still a favorite! Mystery in Space 86. Tried to read it in the dentist's office that summer (more than once), but I was too young for the high-level science. Found it years later, and like Adventure 312's, remains one of my all-time favorite covers. I would also have grabbed Justice League of America #22, Batman #158, Detective 319, Tomahawk 88, World's Finest Comics #136, Our Army at War 134, Blackhawk #188, and Showcase 46.

One comic back then I would never need to spend my precious allowance on would be The Adventures Of The Fly. My local barber shop would keep free comics in the store for kids to read while they wait and it always seemed the store had the Complete Fly series. No DCs, no Marvels, but all the Fly you'd want

Lot's of good stuff, but I don;t think either of those Marvel #1s wouldv'e attracted kid me.
Adventures of Little Archie #28 $0.25 Batman #158 $0.12 Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery #5 $0.12 Flash #139 $0.12 Justice League of America #22 $0.12 Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #71 $0.12 Universal Pictures Presents Dracula – The Mummy & Other Stories #1 $0.25
A whole dime left over! If I could borrow another two cents, it would probably go for Action Comics #304.
