I'm just one isse shy of becoming a total Marvel Zombie at this point: Amazing Spider-Man #5 ($.12) Avengers #1 ($.12) Fantastic Four #19 ($.12) Journey into Mystery #96 ($.12) Justice League of America #22 ($.12) Sgt. Fury #3 ($.12) Strange Tales #113 ($.12) Tales of Suspense #46 ($.12) Tales to Astonish #48 ($.12) X-Men #1 ($.12) ...and once again I'm forced to turn to crime to obtain the quarter that will net me the FF Annual. Cei-U! I summon my cheapskate dad!Hey, I resemble that remark!

Amazing Spider-Man #5 - A lot of the early Dr Doom appearances in FF are so goofy! (Like #10 and #16.) But I’ve always loved Spidey #5, even if Ditko’s Dr Doom looks like the metal parts aren’t marching up quite right.
The Avengers #1 - Yeah. Can’t resist this.
Batman #158 - This one is so crazy! One of the best Ace stories.
Fantastic Four Annual #1
Marge’s Little Lulu #169
My Greatest Adventure #82 - Rita Farr!
Patsy and Hedy Annual #1
Tales to Astonish #48
I think I’m two cents over. I’ll rob a bank!

It's an all Marvel and DC superhero month! Action Comics #304 (could be fun) Amazing Spider-Man #5 (Doom vs Spidey? Shut up and take my 12 cents!) Avengers #1 (Time to see if all these characters can work together in a team book) Flash #139 (I love evil doppleganger stories) Justice League of America #22 (I also love team ups featuring old characters teaming with newer ones) Tales of Suspense #46 (More Iron Man) X-Men #1 (Cool cover, this might have potential) Fantastic Four Annual #1 (Not a huge Sub-Mariner fan, but it's an annual, there should be some good stuff in there) Hmm, Not enough to buy one more book, guess I'll spend the rest on some candy.

I haven't done this in quite a while. We'll just assume I was spending a lot of money on books.
Amazing Spider-Man #6 Mad #82
The rest would go to SF digests or books from the SFBC.

Okay, here we go for August 1963. Adventure # 313 I love that my favorite Substitute, Night Girl, is included. DC, 12 cents Brenda Starr #1 Brenda and her mystery man! I loved the daily comic strip, so I can't resist this Dell, 12 cents Fantastic Four #20 Marvel, 12 cents Flash Annual #1 I love Giants and I love covers that have a lot of panels, esp. side panels--this one fits the bill. Plus the Golden Age Star Sapphire? Yessss! DC, 25 cents Forbidden Worlds #116 Cleopatra? Yeah, I'll buy this one. Btw the Taylor-Burton-Harrison film had been released earlier in 1963. ACG, 12 cents Lois Lane #44 DC, 12 cents Metal Men #4 DC, 12 cents Tales to Astonish #49 Marvel, 12 cents Wonder Woman #141 DC, 12 cents Total: $1.21And since I know that every time I take one of these time travelling trips I end up buying a Giant comic, I've stocked my pockets with pennies. Enough to last me for several more months of buying 8 12-cent comics and 1 Giant comic.

August, 1963Bought this then, so I'd have to buy it again. Got it right after my back-to-school haircut. My first J'onn J'onzz story, and I've been a fan ever since. I would therefore have to have bought Brave and the Bold 50, because I also loved Green Arrow. GI Combat 102 because who could resist this cover? Adventure Comics #313 because I really enjoyed the Legion. Our Army at War #135, because even then I recognized and was impresssed by Joe Kubert's art. Superman 164, which I seem to remember buying, but would have if I could have anyway. Metal Men 4 looks exciting! Combat 10 checks lots of boxes for nine-year-old Hal Lad. I liked "The Rifleman" on TV. I think I'll try the Rifleman comic, despite the typical bland Gold Key licensed property cover. And one more? I'll try something new. How about Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes #138? Great Gold Key painted cover!

Amazing Spider-Man #6 (How can Stan and Steve keep coming up with these villains?) Brave and the Bold #50 (Dont know much about this Manhunter from Mars, but it looks like an interesting story nonetheless) Doctor Solar #6 (Gold Key keeps suckering me in with these awesome covers, good thing the interiors are good too) Fantastic Four #20 (Another interesting villain) Magnus Robot Fighter #4 (another painted cover beckons) Strange Tales #114 (heard about this Captain America guy, time to see what he's all about) Tales of Suspense #47 (I'm starting to like this Iron Man guy) Flash Annual #1 (yeah, it's all reprints and takes $.25 of my allowance, but it's 80 pages and a good intro to Flash history) Thats all I can afford, unless I can get money doing chores for the neighbors.
