More money and no Mad = more money for SF.

Mystery in Space #90 (Thanagar and Rann are about to collide! Guest starring Hawkman!) On the cover, it says it's Earth and Rann that are about to collide.

And I ever read this story a year or so ago. Still, it does have Thanagarian Hawkman - and if I remember correctly, Hawkgirl, who apparently doesn't rate a mention.

I also have 8 cents remaining. Maybe we can have a Comic Club with other CCF members where we pool our left over pennies together and buy more books to share Nice idea. Then we'll need a poll!

I remember one comic I bought in January 1964 after seeing it in many an ad for weeks, it seemed: But thanks for upping our allowance, 'cause there's a batch of others I would have loved to buy that month: Adventure Comics #318 Always a favorite. All-American Men of War #102 As usual, an awesome (in the original sense) cover. Avengers #4 Who's this cool guy?! Doom Patrol #86 Love those non-super-hero super-heroes! Justice League of America #26 Another favorite. Mystery in Space #90 I had trouble at that age reading Adam Strange (too "scientific"), but I could not have resisted that cover. Our Army at War #140 Sgt. Rock... need I say more? Rawhide Kid #39 Cowboys and an imported DC gorilla? Yippee-ki-yay, Marvel-lover! Sgt. Fury #6 If Rock were a super-hero. Showcase #49 Another adventure team? I'm there! Superboy #111 Comfort food, even at that age. Tomahawk #91 Love me some frontier dinosaurs. Walt Disney's the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh #1 Loved it on the Disney TV show. Gotta have it! World's Finest Comics #140 Always liked Clayface, plus there's a Green Arrow story this issue. Seven cents left over? A package of these please, and two Bazookas!

Rawhide Kid #39 Cowboys and an imported DC gorilla? Yippee-ki-yay, Marvel-lover! The gorilla's the least weird thing about that cover. The Kid and the ape are almost as big as the building they're standing on, and the guy in the purple jacket is huge as well. The cover looks like it was laid out by MC Escher.

Prince Hal , I'm not much of a war comics guy, but those are some pretty sweet looking covers. Also, I want to go for ape covers, but I did not expect to see on a Marvel cover, so I missed that one! Oh, and those trading cards look awesome! I didn't know they had stuff like that back then. I'd have figured just baseball and football cards at that point.

They had everything from Civil War cards (it was the centennial) to World War Two cards (it was a mainstay of popular culture then), monster cards, Superman cards, later Batman cards and of course, Mars Attacks! In addition to all the baseball, football, hockey and basketball cards!

I appreciate the increase in allowance though I was pretty good with the prior amount, but this month it did allow me spend a little extra (I'm at $1.32) and I have a feeling I can be a little more indulgent during the months with the pricier annuals.
As I was going through the selections, 4 of them brought back great childhood nostalgia. I did not buy them off the newsstand, but they were in various reprint collections (Pocket Books, Blue Ribbon Digest, etc.) and are old favorites:
Adventure #310 - Jewel Kryptonite story, read this in a Blue Ribbon Digest "all Kryptonite" issue, this and the Gold K were my favorite stories! This was one of my first actual Silver Age back issue purchases at a convention back in the day, I immediately recognized the story and was excited to have the original. Adventure #318 - Legion of course ASM #11 - Classic Doc Ock Avengers #4 - Return of Cap America
Other selection for the month: Aquaman #14 - Nick Cardy art and Mera Detective #325 - Catman! FF #25 - Hulk/Thing Sea Devils #16 - Not a series that gets a lot of love around here, but it works for me, somtimes "routine" SA DC storytelling just does the job for me Strange Tales #119 - For the Ditko Sr. Strange feature Tales of Suspense #52 - Crimson Dynamo and first Black Widow appearance X-Men #4 - Scarlet Witch, love the green coloring just for the cover!

For what it's worth, that cover made CBR's list of most cringeworthy Marvel Silver Age covers. www.cbr.com/cringeworthy-silver-age-marvel-comic-covers/
