Betty and Veronica #105 Archie, 12 cents Blackhawk #200 This Queen Killer Shark character looks cool (if familiar  )! DC, 12 cents Doom Patrol #90 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #31 Marvel, 12 cents Girls' Romances #103 A Gene Colan cover? I'm there! DC, 12 cents Secret Hearts #98 DC, 12 cents Showcase #52 A mesmerizing cover--I'll take a chance and buy this DC, 12 cents Wendy the Good Little Witch #26 My favorite childhood series Harvey, 12 cents X-Men #7 By now you know I'll buy any comic that showcases my favorite character the Scarlet Witch Marvel, 12 cents Young Love #45 Mary Robin serial DC, 12 cents 12 X 12-cents = 1.44 1 Giant = .25 1 Giant = .35 Total: 2.04 No problem--I still have a nickel left over from last time and I'll use it here. Avengers #8 - my favorite Marvel villain of all time, this issue was also my first Marvel Silver Age back issue purchase
Blackhawk #200 - I'm mixed on this one, Queen Killer Shark looks cool, but it's Zinda (aka Lady Blackhawk) gone bad, and even though she eventually recovers, they never really got her back into the mix as Lady Blackhawk again (I always hoped they would in the revivals, Birds of Prey doesn't count).
Dobie Gillis #25 - I'm in the mood for some of Maynard's antics

Sea Devils #19 - just picked this one up this week as well!
Walt Disney's the Moon-Spinners #1 - I'm staring at the DVD case for this movie that's a few feet away from me, so I feel compelled to add the comic

80 Page Giant Magazine #3 - actually just got this issue yesterday, love the reprints in this one! ... Isn't it great? I have it too, a couple of copies. I love that a lot of the stories showcase Lana. |

So, did your mom toss them out? My mom still had *her* comics from her childhood in storage, so no. Over the last 30 years or so, I've sold or given away chunks of my Silver Age collection as I acquired the stories in other formats (Archives, Masterworks, etc.). What I've held on to are runs either featuring favorite characters (Batman, Iron Man, JLA), artists (Kirby, Colan, John Buscema), oe both.

Your mom sounds awesome! I remember long ago my dad telling me he had stuff like Fantastic Four #1, X-Men #1, etc., and his mom threw them all out. Of course, back then, people put no vlue on comics. He also told me he'd take two comics that he'd read to the store and trade them in for one new one. Of course now, he doesn't understand whey I still read comics (He though I should have sold mine long ago) and he's also the sort of person that likes to get rid of "clutter" so even if his mom hadn't thrown them out, I'm sure he would have. |
