Great month!
80 Page Giant Magazine #5 – This one is extra special to me (I actually just replaced my childhood copy of this a short while back). In the early 80's before I discovered my first comic book shop and the glorious world of back issues, my parents took us to some kind of indoor flea market one day as best I remember it. A copy of this issue was sitting at one of the seller's tables, I don't even remember if they had a lot of other comics or not, but it was the first Silver Age comic I had ever seen in the wild, and priced low enough that I got to take it home with me that day.
I was mesmerized that I was holding history, but even better, I totally inhaled the content. One story in particular that was a sort of “This is Your Life” TV show review of Batman's history (with Batman and Robin actually on the show) I remember re-reading over and over. I had exposure to other aspects of Silver Age DC and Marvel through various reprints prior to that, but this may have been my first earlier Batman and I was hooked. My introduction to the non-yellow chest emblem which I thought was extra snazzy as well!
Adventure #327 – First Timber Wolf appearance in the Legion feature! Notably as “Lone Wolf” at that point.
ASM #20 – First Scorpion, one of Spidey's all-time coolest villains! Great issue.
Avengers #11- Kang and Spider-Man appearances with a particularly awesome looking cover? Sign me up!
Doom Patrol #92 – Love the cover, and look at that “Dr. Tyme”...he's got a clock for a head! Stuff like that is why you buy comic books.
FF #34 – Regular monthly title for me.
Journey Into Mystery #111 – Looks pretty epic. Wonder if that's the sword of Damocles hovering above him? Boy I'd hate to be in his situation.
Strange Tales #128 – This is a great issue, you get a classic Dr. Strange story plus Pietro and Wanda in the FF feature.
Superboy #117 – For the Legion appearance!

Already? Okay, then!
Well, it finally happened. Between my usual Marvel books and the Schwartz-edited DC titles I follow, there's no money left for any other publisher's output or even for other editors' DC stuff. I need a raise!
Amazing Spider-Man #20 Atom #16
Avengers #11 Batman #168
Daredevil #5 Detective Comics #334
Fantastic Four #34 Flash #149 Green Lantern #33 Hawkman #5
Joueney into Mystery #111 Justice League of America #32 Sgt. Fury #13 Strange Tales #128 Tales of Suspense #61 Tales to Astonish #63
...leaving eight cents left over to put towards next month's haul.
Cei-U! I summon the simultaneous satisfaction and frustration!

In October 1964, I'll buy these: 80 Page Giant Magazine #5 featuring Batman. LOVE the white background and the fuchsia bat logo! DC, 25 cents Adventure #327 Debut of Lone Wolf. Despite overwhelmingly favorable reader reaction and promises from DC, he won't appear again until the first adult Legion story in Adv. #354 in 1967. DC, 12 cents Doom Patrol #92 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #34 Back when I was first reading the FF, this was my oldest FF comic, bought as a back issue (for 35 cents). I loved the look of the FF series when Chic Stone was inking Kirby's pencils; it seemed so "vintage" to me. Marvel, 12 cents Heart Throbs #93 DC, 12 cents Jimmy Olsen #81 Lana's on the cover, so I'll buy this. DC, 12 cents Metal Men #11 DC, 12 cents The Munsters #1 Gold Key, 12 cents Secret Hearts #100 Gene Colan cover and interior art. DC, 12 cents Strange Tales #128 Wanda and Pietro are the guest stars--a must buy! Marvel, 12 cents Superboy #117 The Legion are the guest stars. Another must buy. DC, 12 cents Tales to Astonish #63 Marvel, 12 cents Teen Confessions #31 The Beatles! Charlton, 12 cents Top Cat #13 I really love this cover's colors--very eye-catching. Gold Key, 12 cents Young Romance #133 DC, 12 cents 14 twelve-centers = $1.68 plus one 25-cent Giant Total: $1.93 enough left over for some Broadway Rolls.

That’s quite a coincidence! During the ZOOM call, we were talking about really bad issues of JLA and #32 was the exact issue I was thinking of.

Wow, I actually had a hard time picking this go-round since there weren't enough Lee- and Schwartz-edited super-hero comics to use up my whole allowance. So I picked up a couple of favorite Gold Key titles, a DC book drawn by the always reliable Nick Cardy, and a 25-center I would usually have passed up on.
80-Page Giant #6 ($.25) Amazing Spider-Man #21 ($.12) Aquaman #19 ($.12) Avengers #12 ($.12) Detective Comics #336 ($.12) Fantastic Four #35 ($.12) Green Lantern #34 ($.12) Journey into Mystery #112 ($.12) Magnus, Robot Fighter #9 ($.12 Popeye #75 ($.12) Sgt. Fury #14 ($.12) Strange Tales #129 ($.12) Tales of Suspense #62 ($.12) Tales to Astonish #54 ($.12) X-Men #9 ($.12)
This leaves me 7 cents to save for next month's comics. Sweet!
Cei-U! I summon the decision dilemma!

I haven't done this in a while, let's see what we come up with?
Mad #92
Amazing Spider-Man #21
Avengers #12
Creepy #1
Fantastic Four #35
Strange Tales #129
Thor #112
Tales of Suspense #62
That leaves 68 cents for SF digests or paperbacks or something from the SFBC.
Edited to add Strange Tales #129. Though it sucks to have to pay full price for a 10-page Dr. Strange story. Because Human Torch sucks arse.

In November 1964 I'll buy these: Adventure Comics #328 OMG those Ultra legs poking out!!
Love love love it, just as I loved the gloved hand of Phantom Girl hand crushing the Cham Boy statuette a couple of issues earlier. Curt Swan's covers are priceless--not only are they beautifully rendered, but they're also often very funny! DC, 12 cents 80 Page Giant Magazine #6 featuring Superman and Fantastic Things and Creatures. Can't resists these Silver Age DC Giants. DC, 25 cents Amazing Spider-Man #21 Dorrie Evans (along with the Torch) pops up here, so I'll buy this. She was one of my favorite characters in that god-awful Torch (later Torch 'n' Thing) Strange Tales feature. Marvel, 12 cents Aquaman #19 DC, 12 cents Blackhawk #204 Lady Blackhawk and "The Return of Queen Killer Shark!" DC, 12 cents Falling in Love #72 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #35 Peter Parker pops up in this one and Dorrie is mentioned--love the connection to ASM #21 (see above)! Marvel, 12 cents Girls' Love Stories #108 The cover includes Sinatra and good ol' Dino. DC, 12 cents Jimmy Olsen #82 DC, 12 cents Lois Lane #54 DC, 12 cents Love Diary #36 Charlton, 12 cents Naza #5 Great Gil Kane cover! Dell, 12 cents Rip Hunter...Time Master #24 DC, 12 cents Sea Devils #21 DC, 12 cents Secret Hearts #101 DC, 12 cents 14 comics @12 cents = $1.68 plus 1 25-cent Giant Total = $1.93, enough left over for some licorice whips
