I haven't done this in a while, let's see what we come up with? Mad #92 Amazing Spider-Man #21 Avengers #12 Creepy #1 Fantastic Four #35 Strange Tales #129 Thor #112 Tales of Suspense #62 That leaves 68 cents for SF digests or paperbacks or something from the SFBC. Edited to add Strange Tales #129. Though it sucks to have to pay full price for a 10-page Dr. Strange story. Because Human Torch sucks arse. I really don't care for the Human Torch, but those Silver Age solo Torch stories are especially bad!

By far the worst thing that Marvel was publishing at the time as far as super-heroes went. I've not read enough of their other books to be able to say beyond that.

I'm late picking up my books this month, but fortunately the newsstand had them all in stock still.
So for my $2 this month...
Going to blow 2 bits to start on that 80 Page Giant Superman issue. I'm a sucker for large reprint issues, and I can't pass on "Monster X" or a building flying through the air with the caption "Creature of 1,000 Disguises".
Next are the standards...Adventure (Legion), ASM, Avengers, and FF. No real comments on the particulars this month, they're just my favorite titles. So another 48 cents there.
I've got to get the GL issue, it's Gil Kane drawing a giant iguana on the cover. The man was born to draw this stuff, and I was born to buy it. 12 more cents.
Definitely need that Journey Into Mystery, now we're talking. Thor versus Hulk, the heavyweights throw down. 12 more cents.
Also need to grab Sea Devils and Strange Tales, that's another 24 cents. Yes, the Dr. Strange feature is the main attraction with the latter, but I'm still going to read the bad Torch/Thing story as well. I take the whole experience. 24 more cents, I'm at a $1.21 so far. Do I risk it all and try for more? (sorry, watching too many vintage game shows this week)
The Superman issue...yes. As a kid, it doesn't matter how many times you foisted this on me, if Clark and Superman showed up as separate characters in the same image, I would go "what?! how is this possible?!" Every, single, time. 12 more cents.
A little more Marvel, let's do a Tale of Two Tales...Tales of Suspense and Tales to Astonish, each like Doublemint gum. Oh, and X-Men for sure with the Avengers appearing. So that's 36 more cents, and I'm now at $1.57.
And I'm going to stop there. I debated Aquaman, great cover, but I just don't know about the story, bad stuff's always happening to Mera. I'm not sure I can take the emotional investment. Same thing with Blackhawk...I love Zinda, they didn't need to keep putting her through this! And yes, I get WAY too attached to fictional characters.

80 Page Giant Magazine #6 This is the only issue I bought that month and, like Farrar, I knew I had to have it. I can absolutely remember buying this at Cohen's Stationery right around Thanksgiving. I devoured it, thought it was just the coolest collection yet of Superman stories. I still ahve a copy, tough not that original one. Adventure Comics #328 Legion! All-American Men of War #107 Always loved Johnny Cloud. Detective Comics #335 Weird cover. Would have had to have it. Our Army at War #150 Always a gem. Rip Hunter... Time Master #24 I was sucker for history and time travel. Plus Rip Hunter is right up there with the best comic character names ever. Superboy #118 Smallville was like my little town except we didn't have any super-heroes. Tomahawk 96 Best frontier comic ever. Sgt. Fury #14 Always entertaining in this part of his run. Avengers #12 Powerful cover, like the JLA in fourth gear. Rawhide Kid #44 Cowboys = cool! Combat #15 Those painted Dell covers grab you right away. And by now you all know that I loved SPORT, so I'm spending 35 cents on this issue. I loved Jim Brown. Eight cents left? Hey, a pack of football cards and three Fleers!

You'd think people would have more sense than to marry/date a superhero! I totally agree with you on getting too attached to fictional characters. Sometimes I can't read something because I know something bad is going to happen to someone I like! Who says it's make believe??!!

Speaking of sports cards, I was in a Wawa this morning and I noticed that a pack of (16) Topps baseball cards costs $4.49!!! What the heck? I'm glad I grew up in the early 80's when they were a quarter!

I always liked not only the huge number of cards you'd get, but the fact that you'd get a preview of a few cards through the clear plastic before buying!

But they didn't come with that rock-hard gum that I used to always throw out, right?

Yeah, that gum was rugged, it just sort of uncomfortably "broke" in your mouth if you tried to chew it, I always ended up throwing it away as well.

Of course, the gum was vestigial since Topps started as a gum company and started adding cards as a bonus. (Actually, they started as a tobacco company and got into gum when their access to Turkish tobacco was cut off during the war.) One thing that wouldn't be done now was not wrapping the gum separately and having it packaged "naked" with the cards.

Back to a (nearly) all Lee- or Schwartz-edited extravaganza this go-round:
Amazing Spider-Man #22 Atom #17 Avengers #13 Batman #169 Daredevil #6 Detective Comics #336 Doom Patrol #93
Fantastic Four #36 Flash #150 Hawkman #6 Journey into Mystery #113 Justice League of America #33 Sgt. Fury #15 Strange Tales #130 Tales of Suspense #63 Tales to Astonish #65
...all at $.12 each, leaving 8 cents which, combined with the 7 cents remaining from last month, gets me Brave and the Bold #58 introducing Metamorpho, one of my favorite oddball supers.
Cei-U! I summon hours of reading pleasure!

I've said it before (and will again), but I love this thread.
Ok, just got home with my little brown bag of comics (that smell faintly of the 3 Musketeers bar that got stuffed in there with them), here's the stack:
Action #321 - just a regular monthly title (I tend to enjoy the Supergirl feature a lot). Adventure #329 - Legion, 'nuff said. ASM #22 - I've always liked this issue...for some reason appearances with the Ringmaster always make me smile, he's such a lovable loser at times. With a cool hat. Avengers #13 - just a nice little classic line-up Avengers issue. Batman #169 - I'll always pick up a classic era Penguin appearance (I feel like I never get enough of seeing him in stories). Challengers of the Unknown #42 - love the classic team, fun looking cover on this one. Daredevil #6 - I would have picked this up seeing the Ox on the cover as well as mistaking the back of the Eel for Electro. Still love that yellow DD costume as well, don't care what anyone says. Doom Patrol #93 - fun looking cover (I love the whole team but always thought Elasti-Girl was the coolest), plus classic Brotherhood of Evil in this issue. FF #36 - first Frightful Four!!!! definitely the highlight for me this month. I want to get that Herbie issue because he reminds me at a casual glance of Bouncing Boy from the Legion...but no, I'm not getting distracted. Metal Men #12 - Missle Men issue! Strange Tales #130 - Ditko era Dr. Strange plus the Thing and Torch in Beatles wigs (obviously fireproof at that) on the cover, how can I say no? Superman #175 - imaginary story time, these tend to be fun. I want to get the Lois Lane issue, but there's some messed up stuff going on with Supergirl (again) in this one, I stick up for this era a lot, but still, there are times...so no, pass this month. Tales to Astonish #65 - I just love the Giant-Man costume on the cover, definite pick up. Wonder Woman #152 - a rare title for me to grab, but I like seeing Wonder Girl briefly take the lead. World's Finest #147 - looks fun, and there's an Aquaman reprint as a backup, works for me.
$1.80 not counting the candy bar, a tidy bit of good reading right there!!
