Super-hero books edited by Stan Lee or Julius Schwartz ate up my entire budget this month, or would've if I didn't have eight cents left over from last month.
Amazing Spider-Man #26 Atom #19 Avengers #17 Batman #172 Daredevil #8 Detective #340 Fantastic Four #40 Flash #153 Green Lantern #37 Hawkman #8 Journey into Mystery #117 Justice League of America #36 Sgt.Fury #19 Strange Tales #134 Tales of Suspense #57 Tales to Astonish #69
That eight cents combined with this month's eight cents lets me buy one additional comic. Will it be Brave and the Bold #60 or Walt Disney's Scarecrow #2? It's a tough call but I gotta go with B&B.
Cei-U! Yo, Dad, I need a bigger allowance!

I'm hoping to rejoin this game at some point. For now I'll just say that in April 1965 I bought Daredevil #8, Journey into Mystery #117 and Pep #182.

No issue of Mad this month. So I suspect a lot of money for SF & noir books.
Amazing Spider-Man #26 - Prime Spidey.
Avengers #17 - really pretty middling.
Creepy #3 - Great art on spiffy short stories.
Daredevil #8 - Wally Wood. Nuff said.
Fantastic Four #40 - still pretty good.
Journey into Mystery #117 - it's at its best in Asgard
Strange Tales #134 - Still only getting it for Dr. Strange.
Tales of Suspense #67 - Just barely worth getting.
81 cents left to go to SF and paperback originals. That Creepy mag takes out a big bite. If only they'd put Dr. Strange and the Hulk in one mag and then the Human Torch and Giant-man could be relegated to a garbage pit comic.

... 81 cents left to go to SF and paperback originals. That Creepy mag takes out a big bite. If only they'd put Dr. Strange and the Hulk in one mag and then the Human Torch and Giant-man could be relegated to a garbage pit comic. Interesting you should say that! About a year later, in 1966--by which time both the Torch and Giant-Man features were mercifully gone!--Martin Goodman wanted to reconfigure the split books...and he wanted Tales to Astonish to contain the Hulk and Dr. Strange features. As for the other split book swaps, Tales of Suspense would include the Cap and Nick Fury features; and Strange Tales would include the Iron Man and Sub-Mariner features. In this way, each split book would contain a popular feature (Hulk, Cap, Iron Man) along with a less popular feature (Dr. Strange, Nick Fury, Subby). Goodman's plan didn't come to fruition, though, as it was all part of a larger plan he had to expand the Marvel line...but in 1966 he couldn't break the restrictive "x books a month" deal with Independent, and he had to wait until 1968 when that contract expired. -Main source: Mark Evanier in The Jack Kirby Collector #44

...Okay folks, another two dollars to spend how you will on the following selection. Have at it! Whew! Many thanks for the two bucks, dbutler69 --I was worried that I might have to raid the grandparents' ol' piggy bank--not that I ever resorted to that in real life, well, not often anyway...oh never mind Anyway, here's what I'll pick up in May 1965: 80 Page Giant Magazine #12 - Batman. Can't resist the Silver Age DC Giants. DC, 25 cents Adventure Comics #334 - Long live the Legion! DC, 12 cents Aquaman #22 Two Meras on the cover makes this a must-buy! DC, 12 cents Avengers #18 This Avengers issue has a lot of sentimental value for me. My intro to the Kooky Quartet Avengers was on TV in the Captain America Marvel Super-Heroes cartoon "When the Commissar Commands!" Later on I learned that episode was based on Avengers #18 (a comic I bought later on as a back issue). Marvel, 12 cents Casper and Nightmare #9 Great cover; I always liked constellations. And I loved those Harvey Giants with their little "TV screens" on the side. Harvey, 25 cents Fantastic Four #41 Marvel, 12 cents Lois Lane #58 DC, 12 cents Rip Hunter...Time Master #27 DC, 12 cents Sea Devils #24 Glorious cover. DC, 12 cents. Marvel,12 cents Tales to Astonish #70 I'm not much of a Hulk fan, but I like Namor and Dorma. Marvel,12 cents Wendy the Good Little Witch #31 Wendy was my favorite Harvey series way back when. Harvey, 12 cents Wendy Witch World #14 A regular-sized issue and a giant issue in one month? Nice! Harvey, 25 cents Wonder Woman #155 DC, 12 cents 3 Giants @25 cents each = 75 cents Ten @12 cents each = 1.20 Total: $1.95 A nickel for these goodies caps off a perfect day:

At last!!! These two dollars have been burning a hole in my pocket! In addition to the usual assortment of Lee- and Schwartz-edited goodies, I was able to diversify a bit this month, picking up three favorite Gold Key titles, a Nick Cardy-drawn Aquaman, and a DC #1:
Amazing Spider-Man #27 Aquaman #22 Avengers #18 Detective Comics #341 Fantastic Four #41 Green Lantern #38 Journey into Mystery #118 Korak, Son of Tarzan #9 Magnus, Robot Fighter #11 Metamorpho #1 Popeye #77 Sgt. Fury #20 Strange Tales #135 Tales of Suspense #68 Tales to Astonish #70 X-Men #12
...leaving me 8 cents to put forward to next month's shopping spree.
Cei-U! I summon the four-color fix!
