Two Marvel annuals force me to forego three Julie Schwartz-edited titles this month (it would've been four if not for the eight cents left over from last month's shopping spree) but it was totally worth it.
Amazing Spider-Man #28 ($.12) Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 ($.25)
Atom #20 ($.12) Avengers #19 ($.12) Brave and the Bold #61 ($.12) Daredevil #9 ($.12) Fantastic Four #42 ($.12) Hawkman #9 ($.12) Journey into Mystery #119 ($.12) Journey into Mystery Annual #1 ($.25)
Justice League of America #37 ($.12) Sgt. Fury #21 ($.12) Strange Tales #136 ($.12) Tales of Suspense #69 ($.12) Tales to Astonish #71 ($.12)
leaving me just $.02 to put toward next month's go-round. I need a bigger allowance, pater!
Cei-U! I summon the financial crisis!

Mad #67 Always a must buy
Amazing Spider-Man #28
Avengers #19
Brave & Bold 61 (rare DC buy but have to have those Earth-2 folks)
Creepy #4 (ohhh that cover)
Daredevil #9
Fantastic Four #42
Journey Into Mystery #119
Journey Into Mystery Annual # 1
Justice League #37
Strange Tales #136
Tales of Suspense #69
And that leave a mere pennies left. No SF digests or paperbacks this month. I'd like to have that Spidey Annual, but I can't justify a quarter for a new 20-page story. Maybe it will still be on the stands next month.

I need a raise in my allowance, too!

These annuals are killing my budget! The annuals, the price increase of Mad from 25 to 30 cents and the appearance of Creepy. Those big books are expensive.

This month's issue was the first Detective Comics I ever owned. Cei-U! I summon the personal milestone! It was one of the first New Look issues that I bought when I decided to seriously collect Detective Comics back about 2010. I’ve always considered it a pretty bad issue, one of the low points of the New Look.

All right, in June 1965 these catch my eye on the stands: 80 Page Giant Magazine #13 - Jimmy Olsen You know I can't pass up these Silver Age DC Giants. DC, 25 cents Adventure Comics #335 I like the angle Starfinger's drawn at--next to J. Buscema, no one drew better heroic bodies than Swan. DC, 25 cents Amazing Spider-Man #28 I don't normally read Spider-Man but who could have pass up this cover? Kudos to Ditko and Stan G! Marvel, 12 cents Avengers #20 Love all the purple, not just the Swordsman but also Hawkeye and Wanda. Kudos again to Stan G. Marvel, 12 cents Betty and Veronica #116 Archie, 12 cents Brave and the Bold #61 Starman and Black Canary. Perhaps my favorite Murphy Anderson cover ever. Besides the swirling layout, look at those textures in their faces, their musculature, and in BC's hair! DC, 12 cents Challengers of The Unknown #45 DC, 12 cents Doom Patrol: #97 The companion cover to the Challs issue Both covers by Bob Brown, both stories by Arnold Drake, both edited by Murray Boltinoff. DC, 12 cents Falling In Love #77 Gene Colan cover. DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #42 Marvel, 12 cents Girls' Love Stories #113 Gene Colan cover. DC, 12 cents Hawkman #9 A rare Hawkgirl cover appearance! I'll buy this. DC, 12 cents Lois Lane #59 DC, 12 cents Metal Men #15 DC, 12 cents Tales to Astonish #71 Love this cover by Gene Col--er, I mean "Adam Austin." He was still doing DC romance covers at this time including the two romance comics I've listed above. Notice that his work for the full cover for this split book, unlike the art on this month's other split books, Strange Tales and Tales of Suspense. What a singular talent. 12 cents 14 12-centers = 1.68 1 Giant = .25 Total: $1.93, enough left for some candy, red licorice whips.

Adventure #335 – I'm singing “Starfinger” to the tune of Goldfinger in my head as I type this. Classic Legion. ASM #28 – Ditko era Spidey always a must, but also a little special to me because ASM #188 was an homage to this cover and was the first Spidey individual issue I got off the newsstand. ASM Annual #2 – More Webhead fun. Brave and the Bold #61 – JSA goodness. It's wholesome for you. Challengers of the Unknown #45 – Something about a giant woman trying to wreak havoc, I'm sold. FF #42 – Any issue from this era I just tend to buy, can't seem to get enough classic FF. Hawkman #9 – I like when Hawkgirl gets a cover appearance as well, to me they are a team first and foremost. JLA #37 – What I said earlier about the JSA. Superman #179 – I LOVE gold Kryptonite stories, the stakes are so high when that stuff is involved.
$1.21, well within my allowance, but very happy with this monthly stack of good reading.

July, 1965: Oh, what a month! These are the five comics I bought... and still love! Sgt. Fury Annual #1 The Howlers in Korea? Did they run inot my dad there? Wah-Hoooo! And the story of Lord Ha-Ha became an instant favorite of mine. What a twist at the end! Oh, the irony! Fantastic Four Annual #3 Never had seen anything like that cover or that story. Must have read it a thousand times! Adventure Comics #336 It had nothing to do with the popularity of "Goldfinger." Of course not. Irresistible cover for a Legion fan. Detective Comics #343 Another all-timer. A team-up, Nazis in South America, "book-length," and John Broome himself appears! Still a favorite... Showcase #58 Felt like a grown-up buying this war comic. Just the title alone was transgressive. Von Hammer vs. the One-Eyed Cat. Cool doesn't even come close to describing this one. All that wonderment for 86 cents. Yipes! If I'd had $1.14 left in the pocket of my cut-offs, I would also have grabbed nine more gems: Rip Hunter 28 Time travel will do it every time. Sgt. Fury 22 Mano a mano with Bull McGiveney. Who will win? Spider-Man 29 GREAT cover! Scarecrow 3 (Gold Key) I was a sucker for this series on Disney's Wonderful World of Color (In our house, the D's WWof B and W) Fantastic Four 43 That cover! that title! No idea what it meant, but it sounded impressive. Justice League of America #38 Earth-Two... and Earth-three? Giddyup! All-American Men of War #111 Loved the air war stories. Our Army at War #158 Frozen Sgt. Rock? Of course I'm buying that. Tomahawk #100 Frozen Tomahawk? And a 100th issue pin-up? Does a summer afternoon get any better? Six cents left. Lo, there shall be a pack of baseball cards and a chunk of Bazooka gum!
