In July 1965, I'll spend my two bucks on these: 80 Page DC Giant #14 featuring Lois Lane. En garde! DC, 25 cents Adventure #336 Love the Legion and love those Legion covers that show the whole roster (or most of it). DC, 12 cents Amazing Spider-Man #29 I'm not a Spidey fan, but I absolutely love this cover and Ditko's contorting bodies...the hands...the feet! Marvel, 12 cents Aquaman #23 The birth of Aquababy DC, 12 cents Archie #157 What a great cover! Jaime Hernandez's cover for 2011's Strange Tales II #2(2011) referenced this. Archie, 12 cents Avengers #20 This is my favorite cover for this month. Love Kirby's perspective and Wood just knocks it out of the park with the shading and textures. Marvel, 12 cents Doom Patrol #98 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #43 Marvel, 12 cents Fantastic Four Annual #3 The wedding of Sue and Reed. I remember how thrilled I was to buy this as a back issue, for 35 cents. Marvel, 25 cents Sea Devils #25 DC, 12 cents Space Family Robinson #14 Love the painted cover by George Wilson. Gold Key, 12 cents Superboy #123 I like Lana and she's on the cover, so I'll buy this. DC, 12 cents Wendy Witch World #15 Harvey, 25 cents 3 Giants @25 cents each = 75 cents Ten 12-centers = $1.20 Total: $1.95 5 cents for 5 licorice whips aka licorice shoestrings

All righty then! Two Marvel annuals force me to forego Batman, Detective, Doom Patrol, and Scarecrow this time around (assuming, of course, I can't find some little kid to shake down for their lunch money), Regardless, here we go!:
Amazing Spider-Man #29 ($.12) Avengers #20 ($.12) Fantastic Four #43 ($.12) Fantastic Four Annual #3 ($.25) Flash #155 ($.12) Green Lantern #39 ($.12) Journey into Mystery #120 ($.12) Justice League of America #38 ($.12) Sgt. Fury #22 ($.12) Sgt. Fury Annual #1 ($.25) Strange Tales #137 ($.12) Tales of Suspense #70 ($.12) Tales to Astonish #72 ($.12) X-Men #13 ($.12)
... for a total outlay of $1.94, the 6 cents left over joining the 2 cents from last month that'll count towards next month's purchases.
Cei-U! I summon my financial shortfall!

I'll have to start mowing lawns or something. I need a raise! This was a tough month to choose. Amazing Spider-Man #29 (I like the Scorpion) Avengers #20 Fantastic Four #43 Fantastic Four Annual #3 (I've got this annual eating into my budget, but I can't pass this up, it's the wedding of Sue and Reed!) Journey into Mystery #120 (I like the Absorbing Man as a Thor foe) X-Men #13 (This Juggernaut story was one of the best X-Men stories of the early years) Adventure Comics #336 (Legion of Super-Heroes is a must buy, and I also love Startfinger) Detective Comics #343 (Batman teaming up with Elongated Man?! I'm there!!) Justice League of America #38 (The JLA/JSA teamups are the highlight of the year. I love the cover with the heads on the sides, even though I know it cuts into the artwork) Flash #155 (A gauntlet of super villains?! Count me in!) Doom Patrol #98 Mystery in Space #102 Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #87 (Darn that Jimmy Olsen! Betraying Superman again! I can't pass up a cover with the Legion of Super-Villains on it. And Brainiac and Luthor to boot!) 80 Page Giant Magazine #14 (Another classic Lois Lane cover)

I might have to trade one of these comics I’ve read a million times for Strange Adventures just to see the “human-hating robots” of ancient Rann.
Hating humans is actually not an unreasonable position. (I always root for the birds in “The Birds.”)

Lots of fun stuff to pick from, just going with my favorites:
Adventure #366 - Legion ASM #29 - Classic Scorpion, one of my absolute favs Avengers #20 - I love this quirky era with the small and somewhat underpowered team, relatively speaking FF #43 - Regular monthly title for me FF Annual #3 - Major classic tale, with so many characters! JLA #38 - Annual JSA team-up is always the best! Jimmy Olsen #87 - Love this story! Adult LSV appearance is so cool as well X-Men #13 - Juggernaut!
Well under my allowance, but very happy with this stack of reading.

...all at $.12 each, leaving eight cents which, combined with the eight cents remaining from the last two rounds, lets me buy
Tarzan #153
...with four cents left to forward toward next time.
Cei-U! It must be Christmas!

August 1965, getting ready for seventh grade... I bought off the stands these two: Adventure 337 (So adult!) 80 Page Giant Magazine #15 (World's Finest Annual) (Loved the deep red background.) I read Bob Hope 95 at my rat bastard cousin's house, and it was great, so that goes on the list. Brave and the Bold #62 Hum-baby,Golden Age team-up! Green Lantern #40 Ditto! G.I. Combat #114 If only for that kick-@$$ Russ Heath cover! But there's an origin story, too! Our Army at War #159 Blinded guys in Easy Company never go out of style. Our Fighting Forces #95 Russ Heath and Larry Rock kick serious @$$! Star Spangled War Stories #123 What a month for Russ Heath as he and a dinosaur kick tons more @$$! Challengers of the Unknown #46 Love those guys! Detective Comics #344 Let's see you get out of this, Batman! Amazing Spider-Man #30 A cover like a Warner Brothers crime movie. Marvel Tales Annual #2 Wish I'd seen this when I was a kid... One more, and I'm grabbing Strange Tales 138. Fury's my kind of spy. Six cents left, so a Bazooka gum for the walk home and maybe I can find a pack of Topps' "Battle" series, and maybe I'll find this one in there...

Let's see...
Mad #98 - Always a good month when I can get Mad.
Amazing Spider-Man #30 - just the best superhero mag on the stands.
Avengers #21 - Woody makes Heck look even better.
Brave & Bold #62 - Love that Earth-2 goodness.
Creepy #5 - Yeah, it's expensive. But look at that Frazetta cover. And the interior art is as good as it gets.
Daredevil #10 - Wally Wood is the man.
Fantastic Four #44 - this book is climbing back up the ladder.
Green Lantern #40 - Alan Scott is the only thing that would make me buy this book.
Journey Into Mystery #121 - Tales of Asgard is really good. Thor...very hit or miss.
Strange Tales #138 - Two solid features.
Tales of Suspense #71 - Teetering on the brink of me not caring.
Tales to Astonish #73 - The art on Sub-Mariner sells it...though The Thing and The Watcher are pretty enticing as well.
15 cents left over. That's not going to get me any SF or mystery digests. Maybe I can find a used paperback or two. Those magazines (Mad & Creepy) are expensive.
