I'll spend my two bucks allowance on these in October 1965: Adventure Comics #339 Legion DC, 12 cents Avengers #23 Classic Kang cover Marvel, 12 cents Batman #176 80 Page Giant DC, 25 cents Bonanza #17 Gold Key, 12 cents Brave and the Bold #63 WW and Supergirl. Yes, I know it's a terrible story, but these are two of my favorite comic book characters, so I'll buy this. DC, 12 cents Doom Patrol #100 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #46 This FF issue is a sentimental favorite that brings back fond memories. We lived across the street from a church and one cold winter day I bought FF #46 as a back issue and then met my friends as we assembled on the church's steps (our usual hangout). I remember sitting on those church steps, chatting and eating pizza with my friends...and reading this comic. The pizza really hit the spot on that frigidly cold grey day...and so did that FF #46 comic. Marvel, 12 cents Green Lantern #41 Star Sapphire! DC, 12 cents Jimmy Olsen #89 Can't pass up Jimmy as a wanna-be U.N.C.L.E. agent. And as usual, what a great Swan-Klein cover! DC, 12 cents Marvel Collectors' Item Classics #1 I always loved those "postcard" covers on MCIC. Marvel, 25 cents Metal Men #17 Doc Magnus is getting hitched? Oh, poor Tina! DC, 12 cents Wendy Witch World #16 Harvey, 25 cents Woody Woodpecker #88 Yes, I realize it's only October and this is a Christmas cover (to sync with the December cover date) but whatever--I'm a Woody fan and this is such a sweet, adorable cover. Gold Key, 12 cents 10 @12 cents = 1.20 3 Giants = 75 cents Total: $1.95 I'll spend the nickel--on you guessed it--some candy. This Sky Bar looks good.

Can't believe I missed the October 1965 post! I'm going to pretend I didn't before I peruse the November newsstand, but I'll only post the October issues I actually bought that month. October 1965: Batman 177 Still remember how good this one was! Batman Annual (#176) Hours of comics history disguised as fun reading! Especially the newspaper story and the Fox, Shark and Vulture. Nobody had gimmicky villains like 1950s Batman. Superboy 125 Also lingers with me. I cheered! I cried! But you couldn't get away with the sobriquet Kid Psychno today. Nobody'd know which one you were talking about.

Let's see what we've got...
Mad #100 (100 issues of comical goodness.
Amazing Spider-Man #33
Avengers #24
Creepy #7
Daredevil #12 (Woody is gone. We'll give this a shot, but I may be done)
Fantastic Four #47
Journey into Mystery #124
Showcase #60 (I'm up for anything Earth-2)
Strange Tales #141
Tales of Suspense #74
Tales to Astonish #76
Walt Disney Presents Zorro #1 (ohhhh that art).
Man...only 15 cents left over. I guess I'm not reading any new prose this month. It's rough when there's both Mad and a Warren mag in one month.
And...Feiffer's Great Comic Book Super-Heroes HC. Well...my birthday is this month. And Christmas is next month. I guess I know what I'm asking for.

In November, 1965, I know I bought this primo batch: Adventure Comics #340 (I agree with Hoosier X , one of the best-ever Legion stories) Detective Comics #347 (A stunning story for its time, though the ending never really quite made sense to me) Superboy #126 (I loved Superboy when I was 11.) Superman 183 (Eighty pages chock-full of "Collectors' Items"!) And of course, I bought this... Down to $1.04 now... I'm going to snap up All-American Men of War #113 I was sucker for World War One flying aces. (Remember, we were commemorating the 50th anniversary on the war back then.) Amazing Spider-Man #33 What a cover! Avengers 24 What a cover! Fantastic Four #47 What a cover! Our Army at War #162 Classic DC weirdness... Sgt. Rock and the Viking Prince. Next up, the Haunted Tank and the Golden Gladiator. Showcase #60 Go, go, Golden Age! The Spectre even had a scary logo. Teen Titans #1 Almost positive I bought this, but just to be sure, I'll grab it. Tomahawk #102 More classic DC weirdness... frontiersmen vs. yet another dinosaur. Stealing four cents from my mom's Sucrets box and adding one more: Zorro 1 Alex Toth art!

Time to spend $2 again. I hope this link works. When I clicked on the link in my previous post from a couple of weeks ago, I was instead taken to a page that shows that, tragically, Mike has passed away. Very sad news. He left us a great site which I know I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from, so hopefully he's reading some DC comics up in heaven. Yes, he passed away in late November. Some here at CCF posted about it over in the RIP thread--here's a link: classiccomics.org/post/526366/threadMike is missed by many, not just the comic book community, but he made sure his site will live on-- it is still being maintained and updated--yet another testament to his uncommon generosity and his interest in others.

My usual assortment of Lee- and Schwartz-edited 12-cent titles takes up nearly my entire allowance this time, but I have a secret ace up my sleeve. First, though, my goodies:
Amazing Spider-Man #34 Atom #23 Avengers #25 Batman #178
Daredevil #13 Detective Comics #348
Fantastic Four #48 Flash #158 Hawkman #12 Journey into Mystery #125 Justice League of America #42 Sgt. Fury #27 Strange Tales #142 Tales of Suspense #75 Tales to Astonish #77 X-Men #17
...leaving eight cents leftover which, combined with last month's seven cents, lets me add
Doom Patrol #101
...with three cents remaining.
However, since it's my birthday, Dad gave me an extra dollar to spend, so I'm also picking up these 12-centers:
Brave and the Bold #64 Fantasy Masterpieces #1
Korak, Son of Tarzan #12 Metal Men #18 Mighty Samson #5
Tarzan #156 World's Finest Comics #158
and the 25-cent THUNDER Agents #2
This leaves one cent, which I'll add to the aforementioned three cents to forward to next month's go-round.
Cei-U! I summon the birthday bonanza!

December 1965What I bought then and would certainly buy again: Adventure 341: Conclusion to one of the best-ever Legion stories. Batman 178: The cover alone is worth the price. Justice League of America #42: One of DC’s Marvel-type heroes shocks the stodgy JLA! Our Army at War #164: Hours of primo reading time. Up to 61 cents; $1.39 left. Oh, but wait, there’s the January SPORT. I bought that one, too. Now I’m down to $1.04. From the Marvel shelf, I’m plucking Amazing Spider-Man #34 Why is Tarzan wearing clamdiggers? Avengers #25 Super-teams are cool. Fantastic Four #48 I wonder if this is a good time to jump on? Sgt. Fury #27 The eyepatch makes it a must-buy! I have 56 cents left! Back to DC. Hmmm. Might have bought Blackhawk, but I read it already at my rat-bastard cousin’s house. So... Challengers of the Unknown #48 A team team-up? Who'd'a thunk it? Doom Patrol #101 I love theses weirdo heroes. Our Army at War #163 What can I tell you, I'm a sucker for Vikings. Still eight cents, right? Okay, then... Three Fleer bubblegums and a pack of Topps Ugly Stickers. Great for book covers in school. Drives the nuns crazy!
