Cei-U!, one thing I love about the Julie Schwartz edited titles is the science facts that they'd have in there as extra features in addition to the main stories. A cool little bonus. I'd like to see those collected somewhere.

Well, I squeezed in one random non-Big Two comic. Congrats, Daffy Duck! Amazing Spider-Man #34 (Kraven the Hunter!) Avengers #25 (Dr. Doom!) Daredevil #13 (I seem to recall enjoying this Ka-zar story) Fantastic Four #48 (The coming of Galactus!!) Journey into Mystery #125 (Who is Thor about to battle on the cover? Looks like Hercules!!) Strange Tales #142 Tales of Suspense #75 X-Men #17 (The Sentinels!) Adventure Comics #341 (The Legion of Super-Heroes!) Brave and the Bold #64 (Batman vs. Eclipso!) Challengers of the Unknown #48 Detective Comics #348 (Elongated Man backup story. I love me some Ralph Dibney) Doom Patrol #101 Justice League of America #42 Metal Men #18 Flash #158 Daffy Duck #44 Some of my favorite covers for the month:

In December 1965, I'll buy these with my 2 bucks allowance: Adventure #341 Hmmm, what is that new banner(?) across the top? OMG it's the DC Go-Go Checks! Yes, it looks like the DCs published in late December '65 (such as this comic, on sale December 23 according to the late great Mike) are the first ones to sport the fabled Go-Go Checks. DC, 12 cents Avengers #25 Marvel, 12 cents Betty and Veronica #122 Archie, 12 cents Challengers of the Unknown #48 On sale in early December ( December 2--again, thanks to Mike's site), so no Go-Go Checks. Never been much of a Challs fun, but since the Doom Patrol guest in this issue I'll buy this. DC, 12 cents Doom Patrol #101 Also on sale December 2: no Go-Go Checks. No matter; at this point, this series is a must buy for me. DC, 12 cents Falling in Love #81 On sale December 16: no Go-Go Checks. Love this Colan cover! DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #48 When I was a kid I had a coverless copy of this, bought form the collectibles store on my block. I never saw FF #48's cover until maybe 10 years ago, when I got back into comics. Marvel, 12 cents Fantasy Masterpieces #1 An irresistible cover--that white background, the colorful insets, Stan's breathless prose. Who could resist this?? Btw IRL I bought this comic about 5 years ago, I think at a street fair. Marvel, 12 cents Girls' Love Stories #117 On sale December 23: Go-Go Checks present and accounted for. Love Tony Abruzzo's faces. He's soooo underrated. DC, 12 cents Lois Lane #63 On sale December 23: Go-Go Checks. The Wayne Boring Superman--the face, anyway--is a bit jarring to my eye. I guess for this particular cover Weisinger wanted a more serious, traditional Superman instead of Schaffenberger's often humorous, oafish Superman. Despite the cover, LL is a must-buy for me. DC, 12 cents Metal Men #18 On sale December 23: Go-Go Checks. DC, 12 cents Patsy Walker's Fashion Parade #1 Flipping through this issue at the stands it looks like this does not include any comic book stories...just pin-ups and features. It almost seems like a magazine rather than a comic--kinda cool! I'll buy this. Marvel, 25 cents Wonder Woman #160 On sale December 16: no Go-Go Checks. DC, 12 cents X-Men #17 The red cover makes this a stand out; I'll buy this. Marvel, 12 cents Young Romance #140 On sale December 9: no Go-Go Checks. Great Jay Scott Pike cover. DC, 12 cents. 14 @12 cents = 1.68 1 Giant @ 25 cents = 25 cents Total: $1.93 I'll buy some licorice whips with the change. No Go(-Go Checks, that is) Go-Go Checks And not to be outdone, here's mighty Marvel!

Compared to some of the "trade dress" that's been thrust at readers of the past couple of decades, I don't find the go-go checks all that horrible.
Yeah, I said that.

I was curious about why some of the DC comics had go-go checks and some of them didn’t. I looked at the release dates and it appears that comics released on December 16 or earlier do not have the go-go checks and comics released on December 23 or later have them.

It certainly seems like something I should have known a long time ago.

Hoosier X, I'm not sure if Swan added any, all, or some of the ovals, but they don't all look as if they were originally drawn. (And the cover shows the old emblem.) Maybe when Schwartz let the other editors know about the oval, Weisinger just jumped on it to be a good egg. But from what we know of Weisinger, it wouldn't surprise me if he were just being his usual huge dink just to be that way and spoil any big reveal.

As I stated last time, DC rolled out the Go-Go Checks on the slate of DCs that were released in late December. By now-- January 1966--all DCs include the G-GCs, much to my time-traveling nostalgic delight! In all honesty I would love to spend all of my 2 bucks on just Go-Go Checks-emblazoned DCs...but I have to concede that there are a few Marvels that are worthy of my allowance too. So, here are the comics I'll pick up in January 1966: Action #334 Giant-size Supergirl issue. DC, 25 cents Adventure #342 Some of my favorite Legionnaires are featured on the cover, including Saturn Girl, Dream Girl and Star Boy. I remember buying this comic as a back issue--I was so excited to find it! DC, 12 cents Aquaman #26 Love that Mera often shares the cover action with the big A. You know, it's a pity the Hawkman comic didn't follow suit, as Hawkgirl was rarely on the cover back then. DC. 12 cents Avengers #26 One of the first back issues I ever bought! The Wasp (and Hank) return to the Avengers! I'm a huge fan of Don Heck's Avengers art. Marvel, 12 cents Batman #179 On this time-travelling trip I watched the first Batman episodes and I love Frank Gorshin's Riddler--so damn straight I'm buying this! 12 cents Doom Patrol #102 DC, 12 cents Fantastic Four #49 Marvel, 12 cents Girls' Romances #115 DC, 12 cents Justice League of America #43 DC, 12 cents Marvel Collectors' Item Classics #2 Love love love the postcard cover. Marvel, 25 cents and worth every penny Secret Hearts #110 DC, 12 cents Showcase #61 One of my all-time favorite covers; gorgeous work by Murphy Anderson. DC, 12 cents Teen Titans #2 DC, 12 cents Young Love #54 DC, 12 cents 2 Giants = 50 cents 12 @ 12 cents = 1.44 Total: $1.95 A nickel for some strawberry licorice whips. Done.
