Oh, man, Go-Go Checks!! January 1966 What I bought that month: Batman 179 A random purchase, but remains an old favorite because the villain in the first story was named Victor Iago; a letter a couple of issues later from Irene Vartanoff explained the Shakespearean connection, and I was impressed that a comic book -- and a comic book reader -- could be so literary! Superboy #127 Um. Not very comic book could be so literary. Okay, now what else would I buy? Let's grab that $1.76 and head to Cohen's Staionery store. DCAdventure 342 The Legion was grown-up reading for junior high kids. I read this at a friend's house. Loved it! All-American Men of War #114 Love those World War One stories! Detective 349 Kubert cover is enough to get me buying. Doom Patrol 102 Chaos! Absurdity! Fun! Irreverence! Yessiree! Flash 159 That cover is enough to get me buying. Justice League 43 I'm a fan of those big team books. Our Army at War 165 Kubert cover is enough to get me buying. Showcase 61 All those "The Spectre is coming!" headlines have me pumped for this one. Strange Adventures #186 A one-eyed giant gorilla who's a witch? Even though it looked like my English teacher, I've gotta have this. Tomahawk 103 Like why wouldn't I buy a comic with frontier fighters and Frankenstein? MARVEL: Avengers #26 A team book with one big shot and some offbeat types? Like a hybrid of the JLA and the DP. I'm in. Fantastic Four 49 GREAT cover! That huge villain is impressive. And it looks like the survival of the world is at stake! Rawhide Kid 51 A cowboy and Aztecs? Why not? Sgt. Fury 28 Let's win the Big One, Howlers!

Ok, to start with, Adventure #343. Solid Legion story made better with the Legion of Super-Pets not only appearing but taking care of business. But also an important issue due to the second story, the classic Pete Ross "discovery" tale! I'll go Avengers #27 next, such a great cover, the Scarlet Witch was such a doll back in the day. Brave and the Bold #65, this is a great looking team-up, Flash and Doom Patrol with the Brotherhood of Evil. I was about to say I need to pick this up for real, but I checked and it's reprinted in the Doom Patrol Silver Age volume 2 collection which I own. Need to pull that out and read it (don't remember this story for some reason). FF #50, not much need be said. Flash #160, I want that Johnny Quick reprint! Magnus, Robot Fighter #14, I own this and have always particularly loved the stunning cover art. Mighty Crusaders #4, I tend to grab any appearances of the Web for some reason. Superboy #128, sort of a ditto comment, I tend to grab any appearances of Dev-Em for some reason. Thunder Agents #4, another issue with a cover I remember hooking me. Undersea Agent #2, I'm curious with this one, I've got a Gil Kane collection of just his stories from this series that was decent (though he didn't start contributing until the next issue). I'll give it a shot. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #4, more underwater fun, ah those lush painted covers. That will wrap it up at $1.71.

Amazing Spider-Man #36 Avengers #27 Fantastic Four #50 Strange Tales #144 Tales of Suspense #77 Tales to Astonish #79 (Hulk vs. Hercules? I'm there) Thor #127 X-Men #19 Adventure Comics #343 (Legion makes this a must buy) Brave and the Bold #65 (Flash and the Doom Patrol team-up!!) Challengers of the Unknown #49 Detective Comics #350 (The Elongated Man backup has Green Lantern!) Flash #160 (25 cents but I have to have it! Barry Allen Flash, Jay Garrick Flash, Kid Flash, and Johnny Quick stories! Wow!) Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #92 (some good Silver Age goofiness) Bonanza #19 Star Spangled War Stories #126 (simply for the gorilla cover) Since those Batman Pop-Tart Premium comics have no price listed, can I have them all or do I need to spend my allowance on Pop-Tarts for them? Hmmm...

Flash 159 Kubert cover is enough to get me buying. GCD credits that cover to Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella.

Daredevil #15
Eerie #3 (Man...Mad plus a Warren mag eats in to the money)
Fantastic Four #50
Tales of Suspense #77
Tales to Astonish #79
Thor #127
Thunder Agents #4
26 cents left over. Probably can't sneak out an SF digest. Maybe I can find some used...or a used paperback. Those magazines are killing me.

I know what you mean! There are still plenty of comics I had to pass on. However, I have a suspicion that if I raised the allowance, there'd be people who would say it's too much. Oh well, I guess we all have to make some hard decisions in life.
