I'm still processing this since George called me about 3 hours ago to give me the news. After the reality set in, I poured a tall dram of scotch and raised it to Bruce.
That guy was just good all around... the guy who was ever-present, but not because he touted himself-- It was because he contributed and joined in just about any conversation. While Bruce would always be willing to give his opinion, he never did it at the expense of denigrating your own opinion. I also had an affinity for him because aside from MWGallaher , Slam_Bradley and myself, he was one of the few folks around here who truly enjoyed western comics and film. The sad thing is, he was looking forward to 2022, having just begun a new job after a period of unemployment.
Vaya con Dios, Bruce... I'm missing you already.
I regret all the more my botched attempt to join in on one of the Zoom sessions a few months back since now I'll never get to meet Bruce in person, if only via video chat. One of the nicest guys I've come across in my years online.

I'm not sure what to say. This is a real blow. Has anyone recorded any of the Zoom calls that he was such an important part of? It might be nice to have some of those available to rewatch at some point. It's been a tough year with a lot of loss, and it's made me think a lot about our mortality. I was wondering if we might be able to do something on the forums here, maybe have a section like a Hall of Heroes where we have remembrance threads for the members we have lost like Brutalis and Captain Jim - maybe with links to threads they created so we can re-read their comments and topics, or any videos or podcasts or whatever that they may have done. Just some way to keep their memory alive.  |

Bruce used to call me his" brother from another mother" because of the similar likes we had for the Avengers in the Silver age and Don Heck, etc. I plan to honor him by reading some western comics this week. Rest In Peace my friend. Anyone know what his favorite series or issue was? Might be fun for us to locate a digital copy and all read and discuss it in his honor. Not sure about favorite; but, his avatar was the 1st issue of Magazine Enterprises' Durango Kid. It's available at the Digital Comics Museum. Durango Kid #1
Artists in the issue include Joe Certa and Frank Frazetta. |

Very sad to hear this. I didn't have a ton of overlap with brutalis' interests, but I always enjoyed his posts and insight. My condolences to his family and friends.

Woke up this morning and turned on my phone just to see this horrible news. This is a gut punch of epic proportion.
Farewell, Bruce. Your passing will be felt and your presence missed here at CCF for a long time to come.

News like this (and my wife lost a great aunt between Christmas and New Years) just seems like there will be never again be any semblance of normality in life.
Condolences to all of Bruce's family and friends from my heart. If there is a Valhalla I am sure he's there drinking mead and having a banquet. :-)

I want so bad to curse at this terrible news. I'm so grateful I had the chance to talk with him in our Zoom meetings and experience his optimism and knowledge and joy and friendliness. This bunch has been one of my main social circles since the pandemic, especially, and this is a really painful loss we're sharing.
Happy trails out there, Bruce...

One thing I could always count on was coming to CCF on Tuesday morning to see that brutalis had clicked "like" on my entry in the cover contest. It was as regular as clockwork - "oh, brutalis liked my cover? Must be Tuesday."
It didn't happen last Tuesday. Now I know why.
This new year is off to a sad start. Goodbye Bruce, we miss you.

A constant source of optimism and joie de vivre.
Nothing seemed to get him down, from employment troubles to all the annoying little aspects of life that could send anyone else on a ten-minute rant.
We loved Westerns, old TV shows, and of course, comics, and the joy they brought us.
What a loss to this little community and to his friends and family.
Can't describe how sad this makes me.
