Where do you live? In a big city? Small town? Rural? Woods? Beach front?

I live in a small town where it is surrounded by farms. So a mix of small town living with rural. I also have a second property that is in the woods in a mountainous area.

I live in a small city (all the problems of a big city, little of the benefits/culture, none of the charm of a big city) in a river valley so lots of rural farmland dotting the landscape between the towns and villages that lie in the valley that pretty much encompasses the entire Dayton/Springfield metro area.

Like @mrp, I live in Ohio these days. I'm closest to the Columbus area, but I live well out in the country. Absolutely beautiful rural setting, woods behind us (as well as some trees on the property), and deep wooded areas nearby to hike and enjoy. Despite my big city roots, I could never go back to metro life.

Bloomington/Normal, IL, home of McLean Stevenson (and his uncle Adlai), Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan Univ. The town basically exists for the two colleges, the headquarters of State Farm Insurance (for now, but I wouldn't bet on the next decade), some agri-business, and Country Finance. It's basically a smallish city/metro, in North Central Illinois. My grandparents lived here, when I was a kid (I actually live just a few blocks from their second house, in town and across town from their first one, when I was little). I was raised in a rural town near Decatur, IL, went to college at the Univ of Illinois, in Champaign/Urbana and, after my naval service, lived & worked in Springfield, Champaign and Bloomington. So, in the middle of the middle.

In the suburbs just west of Beaverton, Oregon.
Didn't we do this once, with a map?

Tacoma, Washington. I'm a city boy through and through.
Cei-U! I get nervous if there isn't concrete beneath my wheels!

A village on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia (although administratively still within the city, so I pay its rather hefty surtax on my income). It's like being out in the boonies, though, as the street I live on is like a country lane, and there's a forest across it and also on the hill above our house in the other direction.

Big city. Very urban. Seems that what little green spaces we have here are concreted over within short order. Walk for 3 miles in any direction from my home - and good luck in finding a tree that hasn’t been cut down, or any green spaces.

In the countryside on the outskirts of a mid-sized town in Quebec. Thanks to the ranch across the road, my neighbours include donkeys, horses and llamas.

On a farm on a hill/small mountain overlooking Chilliwack, British Columbia. It's my wife's family farm and we moved here 2 1/2 years ago in order to semi retire. Chilliwack is a very conservative small city surrounded by farms and full of God fearing folk, with precious little culture. Fortunately it is contained within the beautiful nature of the PNW and relatively close to the major metropolis of Vancouver. Prior to moving here, I was a lifelong big city guy. I grew up in Calgary, Alberta and lived for a long stretch in Vancouver metro/Victoria, BC (pop 400k)

Very small town in southern Idaho. Farms within a 1/8 mile of my front door. What little industry there is not agriculture related (potato processing, cheese manufacture, etc.). 15 minute drive puts me in the South Hills of the Sawtooth Mountains.

For an urban hell person like myself, that sounds like paradise.

I live in a small town in Buckinghamshire, England, amongst the Chiltern Hills and just to the North West of London. An hour's car drive (traffic willing) or tube journey East will put me smack in the middle of central London and an hour West will find me in Oxford. Our town is in a semi-rural location; with just a 10 minute walk I can be out in rolling countryside and there are a number of farms just outside of the town. It's actually a beautiful part of the world and I'm pretty lucky to live where I do.
