Did a little $1 bin diving yesterday and came up with the following:
Avengers Annuals #8 & 9 A couple of Bendis/Meleev Daredevils Marvel Team-Up #139 and 145, for my daughter, as she loves that series.

Attachment DeletedWon this on ebay...I had been looking for a decent copy for a decent price. Usually copies in this condition go for a bit more than I was willing to spend and I wanted one with a half decent spine. I think it looks pretty solid for $24. Now if I can only scoop up annual #1 before a new movie announcement drives it up even more....

Went on a trip today to try and find some comics. The plan was to visit a couple bit indoor flea markets. That turned out to be a pretty big bust.
On the way home, though, I found a comic shop I hadn't been to, and next door was an antique mall that had some comics. So I ended up doing pretty good. The comic shop had a pretty good back issue selection, and while the prices seemed a bit high, they had a thing where the more you bought, the bigger a discount you got, up to 50% off. At 50% off, the prices were pretty good. So I got a fair sized haul.
Between all the places I went, I ended up spending about $65 and came home with this:
Jimmy Olsen #1 (one-shot 2008) Black Canary #1, 2 Our Fighting Forces #121 Love Stories #151 Young Love #93 Betty and Me #16 - the infamous "beat off" cover Life with Millie #8 Red Sonja #11 - finishes my Marvel Red Sonja collection Pep #197, 274, 331, 333, 344 Jughead #50, 75, 77, 104, 105, 133, 135, 141, 147, 161 Archie #291, 417 Conan #213, 246, 252, 256, 257, 258, 261, 262
I'll get some pictures of the good stuff later when I have a chance.

It's called Wonderland Comics, in Putnam, Connecticut, just off of I-395.
The plan was to find some cool comics at either the Dudley Do Right indoor flea market in Dudley, MA, or at the Risom Mills indoor flea market in Danielson, CT. Both of those were a bust. But there's an antique store a block away from Wonderland that had a much better selection than all the shops in Dudley and Risom combined. For what it's worth, Risom had more comics than Dudley, and there was one vendor who had 2 long boxes of 50 cent books whose stall was closed, so that was probably 600 copies of Action #1.

Ah, I've never been there myself but I knew a guy when I was in college from Connecticut who spoke about it often. Have you ever tried the Raynham Flea Market here in Mass? It's hit or miss but I've had pretty good luck there.

no, I've never been to Raynham. I'll have to give it a try next time I head down that way. There's a regular mini-convention that takes place in North Attleboro that I sometimes go to, so it's not too far from there.

I used to find stuff at the Grafton flea market back in the day. Last time I was there, about 18 months ago, there was a dealer with maybe 10-15 long boxes, except his stall was closed so I couldn't look at any of it. That was very annoying. The guy across the aisle from him had a binder with a bunch of Cherry Poptart first prints, so that was interesting anyway. They're closed for the winter - which makes no snese, given that it's an indoor flea market - but I am planning to hit them up once they reopen in April.

As promised, pictures of the best stuff I got today as part of my haul. This batch of comics cost me an even $10. 10 cent Atlas! Higher grade romance! Love Stories #151, the final issue, not so easy to find: 10 cent Jugheads! The alien cover in particular I am happy to get, as Archie sci-fi covers usually command a premium: 12 cent Jugheads!

Seeing this brought to mind an article I saw on BC earlier, not sure if you folks from my old New England stomping grounds saw this or not... major comic collection stolen in Vermonthe mentioned a large number of Archie books (50s-90s) were among the stolen books and that some had been sold to flea market dealers before the thief was caught, which was what triggered the memory. I hate seeing this kind of stuff and I hate inadvertently helping guys who buy stolen books even if unknowingly, so thought I would pass it along so you guys can keep an eye out as you hunt stiff for your own collections and maybe help the guy recover some of his stuff if you run across something... -M

That's right down the street from me.

Their web presence is pretty spotty, so I'm not sure there's a site to go to for info. But it's usually at the Knights of Columbus on the last weekend of the month. I don't know if they do shows during the winter, but I went to two or three last spring and fall. Edit: Okay, I found a site sort of about it: mymummy.com/Looks like the show is in South Attleboro, rather than North, but whichever. The next show is listed as being on February 22 at the South Attleboro Knights of Columbus on Route 123.

Haven't picked up much this year at all so far, but did use an Amazon gift card to snag a couple of Epic collections, the Avengers Final Threat Epic collection collection my personal favorite run of Avengers and the one that made me a lifelong comic fan, #150-166 plus the 2 part story by Starlin from Annual 7 and Marvel Two in One Annual 2, and the Silver Age Cap Epic collection collecting the fake Cap story from Strange Tales, Avengers 4 and most of the Tales of Suspense Cap stories. Planning on making my annual trip down the the Bookery bargain vault sometime in the next few weeks when I get a day with the time and the weather cooperates, so we will see what I come up with there, but I am scaling back on acquiring stuff this year until I get more of what I already have read. -M
