Haven't picked up much this year at all so far, but did use an Amazon gift card to snag a couple of Epic collections, the Avengers Final Threat Epic collection collection my personal favorite run of Avengers and the one that made me a lifelong comic fan, #150-166 plus the 2 part story by Starlin from Annual 7 and Marvel Two in One Annual 2, and the Silver Age Cap Epic collection collecting the fake Cap story from Strange Tales, Avengers 4 and most of the Tales of Suspense Cap stories. Planning on making my annual trip down the the Bookery bargain vault sometime in the next few weeks when I get a day with the time and the weather cooperates, so we will see what I come up with there, but I am scaling back on acquiring stuff this year until I get more of what I already have read. -M So this may be the years dumbest question mate, but are they in colour? I ask because wherever I've seen them advertised it doesnt specify. Im trying to work out their relative value, as in compared to Masterworks or Essentials. What niche are they intended to fill, are they a budget or high quality reproduction ?

They are in color, and serve as a bit of a middle ground between the 2. You get about 18 full size comics of material on average (more if it is material from the split books like Tales of Suspense where they collect only one feature which average 10-12 pages per issue rather than 20).
They are softcover, and cost more than an Essential collection for less issues but in color. They cost less than a hardcover masterwork for more content but softcover, and more than a softcover Masterwork but collect more content. They have replaced the Essentials line essentially, which has been discontinued by Marvel.
When they were announced, Marvel said the entire run of classic series would be collected eventually, but the volumes would not be released in order (so later runs of Cap, Iron Man, and Avengers for example were released before the Epic collections of the earliest issues of each. Those early volumes were released in conjunction withe the 75th Anniversary celebration by Marvel).
Avengers for example has Epic volumes as follows
-Behold the Vision (coming out in May)which looks to collect Avengers 57-76 plus Marvel Super-Heroes 17 -Final Threat (150-166 plus annuals mentioned above) -Judgment Day-collects Avengers 278-285, Annual 16, the Emperor Doom GN, X-Men vs. Avengers 1-4 and WC Avengers Annual 2 -Earth's Mightiest Heroes (collects 1-20)
one might assume future collections will fill in the gaps between those collections to make the full run of Avengers Vol. 1 available in the format eventually. -M

Thanks a lot for the reply, very helpful, now I can make some decisions about what to order, and whether its better for me to just buy from a local dealer...high retail but I wont have to pay $20-30 shipping for a book like this.

Seeing this brought to mind an article I saw on BC earlier, not sure if you folks from my old New England stomping grounds saw this or not... major comic collection stolen in Vermonthe mentioned a large number of Archie books (50s-90s) were among the stolen books and that some had been sold to flea market dealers before the thief was caught, which was what triggered the memory. I hate seeing this kind of stuff and I hate inadvertently helping guys who buy stolen books even if unknowingly, so thought I would pass it along so you guys can keep an eye out as you hunt stiff for your own collections and maybe help the guy recover some of his stuff if you run across something... -M Wow, that's pretty terrible. I hope the people who bought these books give them back

Got this in today: Finally, I have found a copy of Jughead #325! It's in pretty nice shape too, probably a 5.5 or so. In this condition, I'm guessing it's worth $50-60 or so, though it's hard to guess. Whatever, man, it's mine now! Now I just need two issues of Jughead to have #179-up, and I can finally get back to plugging away at this run. The monkey is off my back! From the 'when it rains it pours' department... I was visiting a local store in San Diego last night (terrible store... they decided EVERY back issue ever should cost $3.25, unless it cost more).... but then I wandered into a Crown Books, which has some comics on the wall for $2. Most of it was mid-90s stuff... but they did have some mid-70s Archies, which made me think of Scott. Of course, they also had Jughead #325 (and a couple other high numbered ones)... I was all excited for a sec when I remembered this post

Yes, it does. It looks like the cover of volume 6 is the cover from the death issue. Ordered! With Achies meets the Punisher... The shipping was not too bad for Canada (12,50$), but the exchange rate is pretty high right now... Coldwater : until tomorrow the discount code is 30%, not 20% as scott said, with he code "cold30"! Got my books yesterday, super-fast shipping from the States to Canada! They charged me 12,50$ for shipping, but it costed them...46$!! Yikes! Not sure they made a lot of money from me... Finished the 1st tpb in a day, loved it, the only think is that I would have put the 6 veronica issues, THEN the 6 Betty issues, instead of jumping from one to the other. I could never remember in what story ... SPOILER ...Moose was Mayor, Jug was getting married, etc...

I visited a little store in Alexandria... and I mean LITTLE... it was literally one room... Real estate on King St. is super-expensive. It's amazing they still haven't been priced out.

Just came back from a flea market. A guy there had hundreds and hundreds of comics, but they were just dumped in big blue storage bins. Half of them were completely trashed, and it was a major pain in the butt to search through them. Still, I came away with some good stuff. The haul: Knights of the Dinner Table #4 and #5 (I think one of them is a first print and one is a second print, but not sure yet) Power of Shazam #47 The Black Hood #1-3 (Alex Toth!) Dr. Strange: What Is It That Disturbs You, Stephen? Sensation Comics #1 (1999) All-Star Comics #3 (Millennium edition reprint) Manhunter #1 (reprinting the entire Goodwin/Simonson run) and the big catch of the day: In surprisingly nice shape given the conditions I found it in. It's a little warped, but otherwise perfect; I think it could be pressed up to a 9.6 if I was into that sort of thing, which I am not. I'm pretty sure someone on here was looking for a Power of Shazam #47, but I don't remember who it was. Maybe Dan? If anyone can remember, let me know.

Yesterday was the Legendary Basement Sale at New Dimension Comics in Ellwood City, PA. Over 500,000 sorted comics, plus probably another 200,000 unsorted, and all of them for the low cost of $1 each, no matter what the book is.
My haul for the day was: Amazing Spider-Man Annual #15 Captain America #244 (upgrade copy) Conan the Barbarian #68 Daredevil (Marvel Knights series) - #2-19, 21, 22, 24, 33, 35, 42, 46, 47, 49-55, 59, 65, 67, 69-75, 84, 87-89, 91, 92, 95, 101-107, 109, 110, 118, 500, 501, 503-507 and 509-512 Defenders #29 (upgrade copy) Godzilla (Marvel) #3 (with The Champions) and #17 Howard the Duck #5-7, 9, 14, 17, 19, 21, 25, 27 and 32 Incredible Hulk #203 (upgrade copy) and 370-400 (excluding 391 and 392, which I already owned) Marvel Milestone reprint of Captain America Comics #1 Marvel Premiere #42 (Tigra) Marvel Spotlight #31 (Nick Fury, with Chaykin art) Marvel Team-Up #24, 28, 30, 35, 41, 42, 48, 66 (Captain Britain), 73, 75, 96, 103-105, 108, 111 and 112 Power Man & Iron Fist #55 and 64 (upgrade copies) Spider-Woman #43 and 48 (upgrade copies) Star Wars (Marvel) #4 and 5 (and yes, these are first prints, both in at least F+ condition) Uncanny X-Men Annual '97
As well, they were running a special on their $3 Silver and Bronze Age books, where you could get 10 for $20, so I picked up: Avengers Annual #6 Defenders #16 (upgrade copy - I recently found out that my copy had the Value Stamp cut out, and it actually interfered with the story) Giant Size Chillers #1 Giant Size Conan the Barbarian #4 Giant Size Man-Thing #5 Giant Size Master of Kung Fu #2 and 4 Marvel Team-Up 11, 15, 16 and 19 Star Wars #43
I also picked up about 10 issues of Marvel Team-Up between 100 and 115 for my older daughter as well as Marvel Spotlight #30 (Warriors Three). They were also running a deal on Marvel Essentials at BOGO, so I got her: Marvel Team-Up #4 (issues 76-78, 80-98 and Annuals 2 & 3) - she has #2 and 3 already. Marvel Two-In-One #2 (issues 26-52 and Annuals 2 & 3) - she has #4 already Avengers #5 (issues 98-119, Daredevil 119, and Defenders 8-11) Avengers #6 (issues 120-140, Giant Size #1-4, Captain Marvel #33, and Fantastic Four #150)
My plan is to give her one of those Essentials per month from now through May, so she has something new to read all the time, as she's getting interested in "older" comics instead of just My Little Pony.

Great haul man that sale sounds amazing

I was surprised to find I really enjoyed the Daredevil MMW I got last year (vol 5 I think). I don't know if the second edition is simply a reprint (I assume), and/or if that is what is not expected until March, but IST offered it without any detail that it wouldn't be ready until March (or whenever the latest reprint of volume 1 is due out, I think it's March), so I hope they have it.

We still had some Amazon gift card balance left, and my wife was placing a pre-order for the Fire TV stick this morning and I got to use up the rest on some trades, so I picked up the first two Marvel Mystery Comics Masterworks in softcover, collecting the first 8 issues of the Timely flagship title. They should arrive later this week, and I am looking forward to them as I have been getting a kick reading GA material recently and these will be another fix! -M
