Wow, that'd be sweet.. good luck! It never ceases to amaze me how many strange unique variants of stuff are out there Yeah, it's interesting, and I have to say I've been having some great luck with variants over the last year. I actually discovered a really rare Archie variant last year as well that nobody at all seems to have heard of. Unfortunately for me, nobody cares either, otherwise I'd be able to retire off it. I do enjoy learning about these sorts of things, though. It makes longbox diving even more fun.

So I followed the link from the Bleeding Cool article about Heavy Metal's presentation at Comics Pro and the summit exclusive Kirby variant they had there to the Heavy Metal site, and discovered they had a ton of old warehouse copies of Heavy Metal issues for sale, plus bargain offerings for books and a number of regular book offerings. I ended up picking up 2 issues of Heavy Metal (May 82 #60, and April '83 #71) for $4 each plus shipping and the Druillet Chaos GN from the $5 bargain bin. Also ended up subscribing to Heavy Metal as a 1 year six issue sub was only $22 (which would be $48 off the racks). I added the current issue for $5 as well as sub won't start until the next bi-monthly issue.
The back issues are warehouse copies and they do not guarantee condition, so I tried 2 to see how they look, but even if they are G/VG $4 a pop is not bad compared to what I see HM issues going for at most cons and online dealers. We'll see how it turns out.
HM's new owners certainly seem to have ambitious plans and I am curious to see what materializes out of this. I've been working on filling in the first few years of HM (they did have 3 issues available form the 70s but I had all of them already) and getting into HM's style of stuff more recently, so took the plunge witht he sub since I am not really buying anything else new off the stands.

Yeah the Heavy Metal subscriptions looked to be the best value in modern comics. I was about to put in a 3 year subscription a while back but then the news hit they were transitioning out of print or something, so I never did. I may have to reconsider.
They've always had back issues going as far back as the 70's available at a good price, but not quite the price I like to snag mags at. I used to try and get them at a buck each. I'm willing to spend more now, but still really like a Bronze Age mag for a dollar.

$1.33 each shipped. Serendipity! Two of those have been discussed in the SSOC annotated thread in just the last few weeks.

The second batch of books I ordered with credit form Lonestar arrived today, and as promised, here's pics.... A little Cimmerian goodness with Savage Tales #2... and a little Kirby Krackle with Demon #11 & 12 more savagery with Ka-Zar 1-8 and #13-19 leaving me only #10 to finish that run. More shirtless men from Marvel with Skull the Slayer... finishing that series for me... but from DC we get a jungle beauty with Rima #3, 5, and 6 leaving only #7 to finish the series for me. Lastly, a ghastly good time also form DC with Scare Tactics#4-12 to finish the series for me... and that's it for this order... -M

Some nice, random stuff there, mrp. I also like the fact that it's mostly Bronze Age.

The order I placed with Heavy Metal arrived today.... as it is Heavy Metal I will put the images behind spoiler tags for those who do not want to see typical HM covers... Druillet's Chaos Lone Sloane HC which was in the bargain books for $5... 2 classic issues of Heavy Metal, one from May '82 the other from April '83, each only $4 for warehouse copies and each is in F/VF and then the most recent issue I added on to the sun (3272, the current issue and first of my sub #273 and a special gift they through in-something I had never seen before a "secret project" collaboration between Kevin Eastman and Simon Bisley that was published by Kitchen Sink Press-I have to open up the polybag to see what it is as my curiosity is piqued... -M

And one more small order with Lonestar to finish off credit I had, but had to add a little out of pocket...again pics when it arrives...
I was going to save the credit, but I got a notification 2 of the 5 issues I needed to complete my Conan the Barbarian run had come in in the grade/price range I wanted, so decided to snag them. They had also gotten in the one Ka-Zar issue I needed to complete that Bronze Age run, so snagged that, then added a few cheapo books to finish off small runs and to round out the order to make the shipping less per book.
Overall picked up: Conan the Barbarian #6 and #7 (leaving #5, 22 and 24 the only ones I need to finish off the run) Ka-Zar ('74 series) #10 King Conan #9 & 15 (filling out the first 20 issues of the run for me) The Phantom (1988 mini series) #4 finishing off the mini The Phantom (1989 ongoing) #12 finishing off the series for me)
This will probably be the last stuff I get for a while unless I purge/trade some more stuff for credit somewhere.

My plan is to get them all in NM. I got 3, 23-24 out of the way. 1 and 275 are the ones that will wipe me out.
