Re: Conan the Barbarian collecting
I got a solid reading copy of #1 for $50 from an indy creator ho I knew who was selling off some of his books to fund a print run of a new comic. 275 I found at Gem City 2 years ago from a dealer who was selling everything at 50% off the last day of the show so got it for $15. I got 2-4 at decent prices from Lonestar using trade credit last spring. I got a solid F/VF of 23 from a dealer I knew at a small show last year for $30 but I was buying a ton of $2 a pop Bronze age books from him as well so he was cutting me a deal on that one. I've been lucky filling it in so far. I got 2 huge chunks of it by sheer good timing. I was at a Half Price books and they had bought someone's collection and had put out a set of 50 issues between 120 and 180 (not all issues were there) for $25 for the set (plus it was a coupon weekend so got an additional 20% off), but that filled in a huge hole I had, and another time I was at a lcs where someone tried to sell a collection of 90s stuff, and the owner said no, I looked through the boxes and there was Conan 250-273 complete in there, and I offered the guy what the dealer had offered for the whole collection )3 long boxes worth)for just those books ($25) and he said yes so I got those hard to find issues fairly inexpensively. If not for those occurrences, I would still be a long way form completing the run.
I haven't been able to find a 24 in my price range yet, but I can be patient. I have the BWS archives to read it, so I can wait until I find a copy I like in the shape I want for the price I want to pay. Same with 5. 22 is a reprint of #1 so, I am not in a rush to get it. In the meantime I have turned my attention to SSoC and Heavy Metal, but I have a long, long way to go on both of those. I don't expect to have the same kind of luck with those two series as I did with CtB.

I'd love to get Conan The Barbarian in slipcased volumes like the EC archives at Fantagraphics.

Re; Collecting Conan
Glad I got those later issues when I did a few years ago, didn't pay a whole lot for them
Just check lone star for #275, very high prices indeed. Got mine for £10 few years back
I have from #115-275, Not inclined to collect the earlier issues yet myself, as im happy with the Dark Horse reprints and as long as I can read them in some form I don't care.
Have also got a full run of Savage Sword as well.
Havnt bought any old comics in years and am not inclined to either for the moment as collected most of the ones I wanted a few years back.
Have only just got back into reading them this year, currently on with Amazing & Spectacular Spidey.
Will be updating my readings in the reading club thread.

#275 is selling for as little as $6 on eBay, the highest priced copy to actually sell (ignoring slabs) was $40 with a Buy-It-Now.
The lowest priced copy currently listed is $18 with a Buy-It-Now, but there's an auction going of a lot that includes that issue with four days left and less than two dollars bid so far. Seems like at auction it averages about ten bucks, with some copies with set prices occasionally selling.

yeh, I didn't think it wall all that pricey I was surprised. I think the prices are all over the place nowadays for these modern "rarities" . If you wait you will always get a bargain some place or other. After all they are not that rare.

The annual back issue sale was held at my LCS over the weekend. Since my birthday was last week it ended up being a kind of double celebration and I dropped $500 like it was nobody's business.
The prizes were two 100 page giants (Tarzan 231 and 235 in pristine NM condition; they look like the came from the newsstand directly to my collection with no wear and tear and a bunch of those World's Finest dollar comics in the same fantastic condition).
Here's what I got, again, all in NM:
Brave and the Bold # 171-172
Conan the Barbarian # 92, 94, 96-97, 128-129, 213 (I now have 137-219 as I try to finish this series off this year)
Giant Size Dracula #2
Giant Size Master of Kung Fu #4 (Replacement copy)
Giant Size Power Man #1
Hellblazer # 13-22, 27
Kull #13 (Replacement Copy)
Marvel Two In# One 2-3
Savage Sword of Conan 44-45, 54, 58
Tarzan (DC Kubert Series) 212, 215-217, 220, 222-227, 229, 231, 235, 236, 239-240, 242-246
Tarzan Family #62
Thor #281-282, 292
World's Finest # 248, 250, 252, 255-261, 264, 266-270, 272-281, 304, 305, 314, 316
And out of the fifty cent bin!!!!!
Dreadstar # 7, 9-13, 15-19, 21-25, 27-31

Lex Luthor: The Biography
Nathaniel Dusk 1-2
Sebastian O #1-3

The Lonestar box was on my doorstep today...ignore the Batmobiles used to hold the books in pace as I snapped photos... Conan the Barbarian #6 and 7...down to 3 (maybe 2 as something is in the works) to complete the series... And now a couple of King Conan issues (#9 and 15) to fill in a few hole sin the run (still a bit to go on this one) Also completed the Bronze Age Ka-Zar series with #10 and the 2 Phantom issues I needed to finish off the 2 DC series from the 80s... I also placed an order this morning for the 4 one shots featuring Scare Tactics in team up with other DC heroes that interrupted the story of the 12 issue run and the big one..... Heavy Metal #1... pics on those when they arrive. -M
