John Byrne turned 73 yesterday . From the 70's to the 90's he was considered one of the top talents and creators in comics history. What is your favorite books that he was associated with?
Let's keep the negative comments to a minimum.

Since I was allowed up to three choices, I went with Alpha Flight, Captain America (with Roger Stern), and X-Men (with Chris Claremont). All three are runs I can return to again and again, enjoying each new readthrough as much as I did the first time. Many of the other candidates listed are also good, but these three are Byrne at the peak of his creativity (in my opinion, natch).
Cei-U! I summon the good stuff!

That's funny, I thought he missed the mark with Alpha Flight. In interviews that I've heard, he never really wanted to do that book, and it showed.

I went with Captain America (with Stern) and Marvel Team-Up. The Stern/Byrne run is probably my favorite Cap run. I was just a huge fan of MTU when I was a kid. My third choice would be the Batman/Captain America team-up. It's pretty much the only inter-company team up I like. So...Other.

I tried to avoid one shots, or else I would have been typing all night.

I went with X Men, FF and, a personal fave, Generations (the original mini series)

FF is the run I've returned to over and over throughout the years. X-Men is a close second, but I felt I had to give the top spot to the one he wrote and drew. After that it's not quite so obvious, but I went with Alpha Flight. For a book he wasn't that interested in, it was remarkably good. It's only at the tail end where I feel you can see he was itching to get off the book. I'll comment on specifics if I ever get that far in my review thread.
Really I enjoy most everything on this list. There are only a few I haven't read.

Three choices isn't enough for me. For now I just picked 'Other' so I can mention a few favorites that didn't make the list, like two more fun collaborations with Roger Stern, Marvel: The Lost Generation and JLA: That Was Now, This is Then (originally published in JLA Classified #50-54) and his various Star Trek minis published by IDW (Crew, Assignment: Earth, McCoy: Frontier Doctor and Romulans - Alien Spotlight, Schism and Hollow Crown).

I went with the books that brought me to the dance, Avengers West Coast, She-Hulk and Namor. I doubt these books would rank among many people’s favorite Byrne runs, but I started reading comics around the time that Byrne returned to Marvel. He became the first artist I recognized, and in ‘89 I was looking for his work wherever I could find it. i do remember thinking, even as a kid, that he had itchy feet when it came to switching books.

Avengers, MTU, and Cap were all classic Byrne . I think one of the things I liked about these 3 the most was they were not overly long runs and he didn’t write them . He may have help plot but he didn’t write them. While I liked FF and Alpha Flight they kind of went on a little too long. His art style changed near the end and while his writing was strong in the beginning I found myself really not caring . With FF it was around 269 and AF it was issue 13.

The top two are pretty easy choice for me: X-Men and Iron Fst have always been my favourite Byrne runs on a series. Number 3 spot is a toss-up between Marvel Team-Up and the Champions. I went with MTU because I liked the inking on that series better than on Champions. I can see myself possibly changing my mind if I ever re-read those two series as I don't really remember The Champions all that well.
I'm judging strictly on the basis of artwork - I haven't read many Byrne-written comics and haven't liked the little Ive seen of or heard about them. Also, I know almost nothing about what he's done from the mid-1980s onwards apart from second-hand descriptions and online samples.t

Other: Wheelie & The Chopper Bunch!
No, seriously: Other: Space 1999. Joe Staton started it, Pat Boyette finished it; but Byrne did the meaty center and it looked great.
After that: X-Men and Captain America.
Avengers would be an honorable mention, followed by Marvel Team-Up.
His FF was looking wonky, to me and I never really felt his line ever reached previous heights.
At DC it was more specialty stuff, like Batman/Captain America and Generations.
At Dark Horse, Next Men had the most depth; but, Torch of Liberty was my favorite.

He did so much stuff I loved in the '70s and early '80s (MtU, Iron Fist, Doomsday +1), but I went with the big classics : X-Men, Fantastic Four and Captain America.
I also give a honourable mention to Byrne's Elsewhen X-Men fan fiction, which he published on his website. I am upset by his re-using the silly "Phoenix was an imposter and not really Jean Grey" idea, but overall that series recaptured the feel of his early X-Men issues. I much preferred Elsehwhen's origin of Wolverine (the same as had been alluded to in the '70s) to the Wuthering Heights with claws version that was used by Marvel.

His Batman/Capt America one shot is my favorite issue ever. I also liked his first 2 Generations series. His first 25 issues on Namor are awesome. His short run on Capt America with Stern is a classic. I also loved his Fantastic Four.
