My three were actually FF, Avengers and Danger Unlimited. Why Danger unlimited? I read that it was supposed to be " his" version of the Fantastic Four and I was curious what he would do. I had #1 signed by him at a con and he wasn't even rude to me.

I might have thought about Byrnes's Avengers if I had read more than just the 3 Count Nefaria issues, which felt to me like a fill-in story at the time, though it was part of Shooter's run. But I still haven't seen the ones he did later in the #180s or #190s, which seem more like an actual Byrne/Avengers run.
Not sure why I didn't check them out at the time, since even though I had given up on the Avengers after the end of the Korvac sequence, I was still reading Marvel and I liked Byrne's artwork. Perhaps I just didn't happen to see them on the stands and wasn't aware that Byrne was the artist on some of those issues (and another favourite, Perez, on some other Avengers comics I missed around that time). I'll have to look and see if it was ever mentioned on Stan's Soapbox page or the Marvel checklist (if that was still going), those are about the only places I can think of where I might have seen that kind of info back then, apart from the credits pages of the comics themselves.

That never occurred to me - I wonder if you're right? Would the length have fit? 3x17 pages, not sure how long annuals were at that time. Or perhaps it was a script Shooter was keeping aside for emergencies. If I remember, there were one or two things that kind of chimed in with the general continuity of Shooter's run - e.g. Wonder Man's momentary hesitation in battle - but they were the kind of thing that could easily have been added in at a later stage.
Also, fairly or unfairly, I still think of Shooter as more of a DC kind of writer, who thought of stories as individual pieces rather than as parts of the larger, never-ending, organically growing narratives that Stan's Marvel seemed to be doing. Maybe he saw all his stories as relatively encapsulated, with a few nods here and there to make them seem connected in the way comics like the Lee/Kirby FF were in I think a more natural way.

It looks like I missed this poll, and now it's closed. X-Men, Fantastic Four, Alpha Flight, and Superman are the first four things that jump into my mind, but I also loved his She-Hulk and Captain America run with Roger Stern. The Batman/Captain America one shot was a lot of fun. As far as him as "just" an artist, his 70's work on the Avengers was great, plus the stuff he did with Claremont on Marvel Team-Up and Iron Fist. His two issues on Indiana Jones were great, but it was only two issues. I didn't like his West Coast Avengers work as much, and X-Men: The Hidden Years was gorgeous to look at, but the story moved way too slowly, for one thing.

Batman/Captain America team-up. It's pretty much the only inter-company team up I like. So...Other. That.

I went with Captain America (with Stern) and Marvel Team-Up. The Stern/Byrne run is probably my favorite Cap run. I was just a huge fan of MTU when I was a kid. My third choice would be the Batman/Captain America team-up. It's pretty much the only inter-company team up I like. So...Other. You didn't like Superman/ Spider-man?

Has there never been a Daredevil/Batman cross-over, or whatever they call them? That would seem to be an obvious one, in the same way that X-Men/Titans was an obvious pairing.

there were 2. One was by Chichester and Scott McDaniel. It had Two-Face and Mr Hyde as villains. The second was by Alan Grant and Ed Barretto. Kingpin and Scarecrow were the villains. I still have the first one so that tells me I liked it more. It was decent but not stellar.

Imo Daredevil and Nightwing would be the better pairing. I would like to see Batman go up against Moon Knight.
