I can’t believe Indiana Jones didn’t get a single vote. Those two issues were fantastic. And it gave me one of my top two favorite in-house ads of all time. Comic art seemed to come incredibly naturally to him. Amazing that he was able to draw that well and that quickly back then.

One of my initial choices would be Superman but after reading Shax's reviews, I've kinda calmed down on that a wee bit. So my 3 choices would be: X-Men, FF, and a tie between Alpha Flight/MTU. IMHO, Byrne did one of the best ever comic death issues in Alpha Flight #12. A gut punch of a last page. I've recently read his MTU run with Claremont and it was really, really good. I don't know why I waited so long to read it.

I missed the Indiana Jones series at the time but have put it on my list now, just the two Byrne issues, the one drawn by Gene Day, and one written, drawn, and inked by Herb Trimpe - did that ever happen again?

I was considering that one too but I usually prefer Chaykin doing the complete art himself and also I've never seen Chaykin and Austin working together. Maybe I'll try to find some online samples to see how I like it.

Maybe I'll try to find some online samples to see how I like it. You can pretty much never go wrong with Austin inking anyone's work, so his inks on Chaykin's pencils are quite lovely. Here's a page from that issue of Indiana Jones I found online:
They also collaborated on a Dominic Fortune story that appeared in Marvel Premiere #56:
(that's a scan from my own book)
