Two wrongs don't make a right.
But two rights make a u-turn.

There is a difference between being Stern and being Rude.

I should make it clear that my original, not very good joke was directed at the two characters involved, the Hulk and Superman, and my personal distaste for them, not the two creators, of whom I know very little.

The stand outs in my mind are the two big Marvel runs on Uncanny and FF, but his Captain America run with Stern was excellent and sadly cut short by Shooter being difficult. I also enjoyed him on Spiderman and Avengers. Basically anything Marvel he did up until 1983 was great. Really great! Alongside Miller he was my favourite of this era, sneaking above even Perez and Colon.
Most of his work from Alpha Flight #1 onwards I struggle with due to his art. The effort to differentiate faces and facial expressions rapidly plummeted. Various other aspects diminished too, such as reputation of poses, and even though he wrote some books well I just don't want to look at the art. Even paired with the best of inkers in the world, his art would never again come close to matching his late 70s/early 80s output. Also astonishing was his ability to draw 4 titles a month at his peak! Perhaps he was also best at doing breakdowns, and letting the excellent inkers he was paired with do the finishing?

I only just saw this post so was unable to vote. I would have voted for Avengers. I was surprised that Avengers only got 2 votes. I thought first maybe because he wasn’t writing it but he didn’t write the X-men. I thought his art was right on par with his X-men art while having various inkers and I will assume he had helped plot the stories. So what was his run that only got him 2 votes?

Probably being such a short run compared to the big two runs. (The Avengers #164–166, 181–191... he worked on the title again later, but by then his art had dropped off.). His Captain America with Stern was even shorter, but was more memorable due to the storyline.

A pity that version of John Byrne disappeared. I agree. While I was introduced to Perez through his Avengers run, I wonder what Byrnes run would have been like if it has gone from 160-191.

John Byrne turned 73 yesterday . From the 70's to the 90's he was considered one of the top talents and creators in comics history. What is your favorite books that he was associated with? I really appreciate your phrasing this so diplomatically!

It was a really good period in general to be an Avengers reader- fun stories and high quality art were the norm. But I'm biased- I loved Bronze Age Avengers (and later Silver Age, for that matter. Funnily enough I still haven't read the first 45 issues, though!)

Another great place to see John's best art is the 3 issues of Charlton's Space: 1999 in 1976. Faces looked like the characters from the show, just beautiful work overall (did his own inks as well).
I think I was away when this survey came out, but it would have been a close tie between X-Men and FF for me, probably X-Men getting the overall nod since I truly enjoyed the entire run whereas the FF I prefer the earlier part a lot more.
A huge honorable mention for Superman Batman Generations, the old Byrne magic ran strong with that one.
EDIT: Oh, now I see it was 3 choices you could make. So yeah, X-Men, FF, Generations.

I can’t believe Indiana Jones didn’t get a single vote. Those two issues were fantastic. And it gave me one of my top two favorite in-house ads of all time.

If I had the option of voting for 5 or 6, his stint as artist on Avengers definitely would have been one of my picks - that run of issues before #200 is my personal sweet-sport for the Avengers. However, as noted in my comment when this survey was posted, three was not enough for me, so I only voted for 'other' to highlight some of the series not mentioned here.
