Kingdom Come. Batman Beyond. Christian Bale's Batman. O'Neil and Adams Green Lantern/Green Arrow run. I heartily agreed about Kingdom Come and Bale's Batman. The hype about KC really mystifies me. It's like elevating telling over showing. We get scripting saying that it's big and important and serious, but the storytelling doesn't conveys much interesting. I've only scenes a few episodes of Batman Beyond, but I enjoyed them. I like GL/GA, but paradoxically I could see why people would expect more. I feel like it could be dependent on how a person is feeling when they read it and what they're expecting. For instance, a big part of it is dealing with social issues, but some of the issues feel more superficial/broad than they could be.

I was speaking to a friend who was telling me he picked up DD storyline Born Again and how excited he was to read it. Born Again is to be the next MCU storyline. I didn’t want to crap on his excitement but I have never understood the praise of this storyline.. So much so that I am rereading it because it’s been years and maybe I’ll see it differently. Which makes me wonder is there a storyline, or single issue that got accolades that just didn’t resonate with you? I really, really like Born Again. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of another Miller/Mazzuchelli collaboration, Batman: Year One. I would say the original Galactus Saga doesn't live up to the hype. It sounded much cooler when it was referenced or recapped in other stories than when I finally read it.

I think most of the hype is due to the price of the issues than the actual story

I think what made the Galactus Saga so iconic is the characters and concepts it introduced. Reading it later, we have so many more, grander and longer cosmic sagas. But it was quite "earth shattering " at the time.
Same with Born Again, we hadn't really seen a villain tear a character's life apart like that before.

I wonder if Kingdom Come hasn't aged well... it was stunningly good to me when I first read it, but I was relatively new to comics at the time. I don't think I like Alex Ross as much now... he's been a bit overexposed really... and while his paintings are great, they're pretty static.
I'm with Rags on Watchmen... I even read it again relatively recently.. I just don't see what others do in it. I'll take V for Vendetta over it any day.
I don't think I've ever read Born Again... Daredevil is not my favorite character, and when I have liked him it's a much lighter version than that story sounds like.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is still the best Batman movie, to me, with the 1966 film a close second. Say what you want; but, as a kid, it was an awesome adventure movie; and, as an adult, it is funny as hell! You, sir, are obviously a man of refined taste and excellent judgment.

1966 Batman TV series...pass. Lorenzo Semple jr tried to pull a 70/30 of tone (70 being action/adventure, 30 being tongue-in-cheek), but that faded midway into the series' 1st season, and it was all downhill from there, thanks to William Dozier wrongheadedly thinking reporters writing about the silly aspects was praise, then he turned that up, making the series an embarrassing mess from the second season until its cancellation, with the Green Hornet crossover (late second season) being the one, last bright / interesting spot. Its no wonder period Bat-comic readers sent in letters criticizing the TV series and seeing any of its influence in the Bat-comics.
But the 1966 series is not really a subject for hype, as it all burned out for the series before the first season ended.

I pulled out my DVD Batman 66 set and watched a few episodes. Man, It was hard to sit through. Did you like it at the time when you first got them? I’m rewatching Curb your Enthusiasm and by season 6 I realized how annoyingly unfunny this show is. Though first 5 seasons are still pretty genius. Always amazed at how one’s tastes change

There is something to short doses of shows and comics. I have to admit, I had it on in the background while I was sorting through comics. Maybe I needed to just watch it without distraction.
