Another name I'd list (for his comic book--not strip--work) is Frank Robbins
I've read a few volumes of the Johnny Hazard strip and that would be my pick of his work. The Marvel/DC stuff I don't dislike as much as some but it isn't my favourite - plus he was always just the artist on the Marvel/DC things I've seen, not writer/artist.

He wrote and drew a few DC stories, including Batman (maybe the first person to do that). I've never been crazy about his Marvel work, but that was basically work for hire. I think I read he was trying to bankroll a move to Mexico.

Neither would 3 of the guys you listed, there's only 1 winner, but he certainly would be the favorite fo some people here. If it only counts if they win, then you should only list 1, because the others won't win either. And knowing this board, Miller wouldn't win either as there's not a lot of Miller fans here (I'm a fan but I'm more of an exception in that among the folks here). I like Miller a fair bit. At least through the best of Sin City. But he’s still way down my list. And much further if I include strip creators. Yeah, I like Miller a fair bit too. At least, I like his Daredevil, Batman and Sin City stuff from the 80s and 90s. But no way would he make my Top 5 writer-artists list.

I’ll admit I could have added more creators. Sorry people.

Do I even need to post who I voted for? :-)

How the heck did this poll end with Miller on one vote? 😅😅😅

How the heck did this poll end with Miller on one vote? 😅😅😅 Absolutely not a criticism, but there could be people who, quite rightly, get enthusiastic about posting, which is fine - but then forget to vote.

Maybe , but I didn't have the time to pick creators that wouldn't move the needle. I chose these as the top and most prolific that did varied books. I've never before heard a fan of classic comics suggest that George Perez "wouldn't move the needle" I don't think OP was being unfair not to include George Perez. One of my all time favourite superhero artists- an industry legend- but as a writer? He's not exactly famous for his writing, unlike the writers listed.

Mignola. I've loved almost everything of his I've touched. Hellboy in Hell was underwhelming, though. I even enjoyed that. I've never failed to enjoy anything Mignola drew or wrote, as far as I recall, but I don't own all his work, though rather a lot.

Of those listed I’d have gone w. John Byrne.
Frank Miller’s DD and Batman work was on a whole other level, and Walt Simonson’s Thor was purely epic, but John has a larger body of work that I love to this day across the board.
Jim Starlin’s early work was fine but boring to me at times as a kid, and his unhealthy love affair w. Thanos has never appealed to me.

Of the OP choices, I'd have to go with Bryne. I find that I go back to re-read his work (whether it be FF, AF, Superman, what have you) more often than any of the other creators listed here. That may also be due to his heavy influence at Marvel during the time I started reading Marvel back in the 80s.
Of my own choices, it's a tie between Jaime Hernadez and Matt Wagner.
