The Writer/Artist is a special talent and not everyone could do it. I've chosen 4 to go head to head that seemed to be the most prolific and who made the most impact. Pick your favorite and explain why. Frank Miller, Claim to fame-Daredevil Elektra Wolverine Ronin Dark Knight 300 Sin City Jim Starlin, claim to fame -

I'm guessing you're going for a DC/Marvel focus. Otherwise, I'd include Mignola, Barks, Rosa, Sakai, and Aragones, just to name a few.

I included the “other “ feature for anyone else. I thought these 4 had more impact than the others. I wouldn’t rate Perez as a good writer/ artist. His Wonder Woman didn’t hold my interest.

And I'll go other with Darwyn Cooke.

Those are four major old favorites for me, but I'll pick Byrne. Maybe it's because he was my childhood, but I love a lot of his art and his FF run was one of my favorites. Even some later stuff like Generations I really enjoyed. In general I thought he had a lot of good story ideas, though when he went off the rails on occasion, it could be beyond infuriating. Still, I enjoy revisiting a lot of his old material.

Of those listed, I would order them...
Simonson Starlin Miller
then well behind those Byrne (whose writing I tend to think is mediocre at its best and bad most of the time).
I'd also put a lot of others in the list (Perez & Cooke already mentioned, but also Kubert, Jurgens if we're talking super-hero focused stuff and dozens if we're going outside super-heroes least of which would be Eisner, McCloud, Jeff Smith, Mike Mignola, Wendy Pini, Stan Sakai, Moebius, Herge, Milt Caniff, P. Craig Russell, Jack Katz, Carla Speed McNeil, Linda Medley, Eastman/Laird, Colleen Doran, Barks, Rosa, etc. etc.).
If you want it to be super-hero big 2 focused, that's fine, but you should alter the thread title to reflect that, otherwise it's either misleading or presumptuous depending on the point of view your coming to the thread from.

There’s a lot I don’t care for (photocopy heroes, Star Trek photonovels, and Spider-Man: Chapter One), but I feel that when he’s good, he’s good, such as Generations. I do consider his Superman origin to be the definitive one for me. I did feel he gave a lot of personality to supporting characters, and it did feel he gave some “character” to locations.

From the ones listed, I think Starlin was the most ground-breaking. Of course, I'm thinking more of his Metamorphosis Odyssey than of the later mainstream stuff.

I chose these as the top and most prolific that did varied books.

Of the ones listed, I'd pick Starlin by a slim margin. Miller having the most impact. But I voted other for Will Eisner.
